Today I bought a Canon EOS 350D with twin lens kit (18 -55 and 70 - 300)

I also have a Canon EOS film SLR with a Sigma 28 - 200 lens.

My problem is that I was told that all AF lenses which fit film SLR's will fit digital SLR's.

This doesn't seem to be the case as I have so far only been able to take 2 photos with the Sigma attached, the rest of the time I get an error code which tells me the lens is not suitable.

Has anybody had a similar exerience?

Cheers, Jack

I think it depends on the age of the lens. I vaguely remember that sigma were updating some lenses to suit the new systems. Would probably be worth a call to the camera shop to see if there is an update program for the electronics in the lens.

Does it work in manual focus mode?

woodbe.

As woodbe says, check if it works in manual focus mode, if so then AF mode probably just doesnt work. A lot of old film lenses will only work in MF mode on digital bodies. This is the same for many brands.

Thanks guys,

I can get the lens to work sometimes.
I posted the same question in a dpreview forum and somebody said that Sigma in the states would update the lens somehow or give credit towards the purchase of a new lens.
I will try a few dealers here and see what sort of solutions they come up with.

G'day.
Thats why I use Pentax Digital SLRs
Even the old screw mount lenses work with no worries.
I use *ist D and also have 2 *istDs's.

The D is main body with a Ds backup.
The other Ds is the play body. Usually lives in the car with a tamron 24-135 attached for that "you never know when" moment.

G'day Jack.
Mate, not a cannon. (Note: 2 N's) Only a poor little 9mm.
Used it on Sunday for a competition.
Shot well, but not good enough to win the sheep station :( .

Jack.
Did you get any damage from the cyclone up your way?
How's it going up north.

I know some of the timber inspectors from Timber Queensland have headed up there today.
There has been talk of roof truss failure that should not have happened.

No damage here mate, just strong winds (apparently gale force) and a fair bit of rain.
All the bad stuff was a little further north.
