The other night I was out to dinner, happily munching my way through my Caesar salad when I noticed a grub on my lettuce, I wondered what I should do, should I:

Make a huge fuss embarrass the management and try to get a refund on my meal.
Should I quietly call over the manager and point out the problem.
Should I move the offending grub to the side of my plate..
Or should I cop it sweet eat my salad and the grub, and be thankful for some fresh meat in my dietAfter a moments contemplation and considering that the Raconteur was a friend I chose option no 4 did I do the right thing?

4 was a good option. Never, never complain to waiting staff. You'll get more than a grub in your meal. Various bodily fluids etc.

You didn't mention just putting the plate to one side, and ignoring the issue...

If asked by a waiter, just quietly point to the offending item.

Option 5.......( Also known as Al's option )

Choke, wriggle, fall to floor, convulse.
When the waiter comes to assist, spit the grub on him with a groan, and moan about how the grub got stuck in your throat.

...or pay him with a note stamped on both sides in red: "sample only."

That little bit extra on your currency for the little bit extra in your meal.

You haven't given us a lot to go on here, was the grub fresh or dried out? Was it a full grub or only half a grub? Details man, they make all the difference.

Seriously, option 2 is the only option. Assuming the friend is professional, he'd want to know if greeblies are finding their way to the food and customers mouths. People may not complain but they won't come back.

Groggy i totally agree, if the person running the business is your friend they would want to know about this.

but hey really, how many grubs have grazed that lettuce when it was growing? we only seem to get upset about it when they are in direct competition with us when we start eating it, think about ithttp://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/images/icons/icon7.gif

Option 3 for me ..... I would never send the meal back as I know it will come back with something worse.

A grub on lettuce really isn't too much of an issue. As mentioned previously they spend plenty of time there during the growing. Even if the lettuce is washed some of those grubs can be sticky .... and a little crunchy.

Yep I'd go option 2 as well, no point makin a fuss... some things happen beyond the tightest control, they'd probarly be quite appreciative for pointing it out without making a scene and compensate you for it.

What's worse than finding half a grub in your salad?

Finding two halves ... and both the SAME end :D

If it had a 'live' grub on it, it means the food hasn't been poisioned... it is good, you can safely eat it & the grub. If you don't like grubs, offer it to somebody who does & praise the management for using Organic (non-poisonous) veggies.

If the grub is dead, ask why. ;)

Always go for No.2 make a huge noise and don't pay ........ slip the grub back into the match-box go to the next place and start again....... Thats what i do usually you get a couple of drinks, or if shmbo is with you and she cry's tells them this is the first night out she has had in two years due to the kids and they have totally ruined it then you get the free meal .
