g'day all
does anyone know of some good sites or books about faux finishes, supplies etc...what i actually want to do is reproduce the aged effect found on coloured chinese antiques...

La heurta Did you get the Polishers Handbook or does any one else have a copy.
I'm looking for some instruction on turning an MDF fire (fake) surround into a faux slate one. Does the book have that sort of detail?:confused:

Didn't say nuffin cos I was on the way to Brizzy for WWW Show.
I'm there now and still got nuffin much to say, the echnidna said it all.
Well, just one thing. It doesn't tell you how to fake slate but it does for marble and other fake finishes. However slate should be pretty easy to fake. Probably something like a very dark gray (almost black) base painted over with a lighter gray or slate color then lay a plastic bag over it whilst wet and peal it off. Probably be easier and just as cheap to use slate.
Pretty bland and unusual stone to be faking for a fire surround, green, white or black marble is a lot more common. Seen a lot of fire surrounds in my time but can't say that I have ever seen a slate one. Interesting.
