Hi all,

Can you tell me if this is true: when laying timber floating floors the plastic wedges used on the first few rows should be left in permanently ?Also if beading is used, this should be glued to the floor not nailed to the skirting?A colored sealant should be used between the wall and the beading to allow for movement. Done this way the boards will not separate ??
This was what a person who laid a heap of floors in the UK.
Can anyone tell me if this is right or not?
Thanks Nuggett:confused:

the plastic wedges used on the first few rows should be left in permanently ? No, you need to remove those before you fit any trim around the edge. You need to have a clear gap between the floor and skirting to allow the floor to expand and contract.

Also if beading is used, this should be glued to the floor not nailed to the skirting? You need to have some sort of beading to cover the gap between floor and skirting, looks seriously ugly otherwise. Only attach beading to the skirting, so no nailing or glueing to the floor. Once again you need to allow the floor to move.

A colored sealant should be used between the wall and the beading to allow for movement. Between beading and wall or beading and skirting? If the latter, no there's no need.
