Hi guys and gals:)
what do you think is the best musical album time?
don't rip me off for this but i rekon its the red hot chilli peppers's: californiacation album:D
the story behind this is a argument i got into at school a couple of days ago.:) and i just wanted to know what you guys (and gals) thought.

The best album of all time is Led Zeppelin's fourth album, known as Led Zeppelin IV, or "the Runes Album" after the four mysterious symbols that comprise it's actual title. This has actually been proven true by science, as well as being a point of common agreement among cross-cultural social philosophers, theologians and taxi-drivers.
Or any of their other studio albums.

RHCP is good, Led Zep will be in the top 10 for sure, but Metallica / Pearl Jam / U2 / Hendrix / ... arrgh the list just goes on :cool:

That's a personal opinion anyway. Worldwide opinion I suspect goes with the Eagles: Their Greatest Hits album from 1976 (?). For the audiophiles, probably Roy Orbison and co in Black and White Night, 1987, which is just awesome listening in SACD.

I'm not sure if this really qualifies as an "album", but Martha Argerich playing J.S. Bach's English Suite (on Deutsche Grammophon), or perhaps Martha again, with the Rach 3, under Karajan, or...
Hmm, so much depends on context, mood, etc
Maybe the Led Zeppelin album with "The Hangman's Tale"?, or Enya's first solo Album?

or the double gatefold rock opera album with the booklet in the middle ?
(both are classics by the way)

Kottke invited him backstage after the show and was so impressed with little brother's playing (in the Kottke style) that they had a jam session. He's also a big fan and adept of Robert Fripp (King Crimson).:):cool:

2/Johnny Winter 'Nothin' but the Blues"
3/ Dire Straits self titled, their first one and the best debut of all time!

I'm with Major Panic - Pink Floyd and Dark Side of the Moon - great album that, very inspirational for a bit of poetry and a bit of artwork to go with the poetry. Must dig out that album tonight for a listen.
My second choice is Queen - all their 80's and 90's releases and not as many of their 70's releases.

Californication is a good album but I prefer Blood Sugar Sex Magik from RHCP.
And the Honeymoon Is Over was good but I preferred Three Legged Dog from The Cruel Sea.
My personal favourite though is 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 from Midnight Oil.:D:D
So many more to list..........so I won't.
But Pink Floyd would be up there, as well as Led Zep, but sorry Ruffly - Queen doesn't come close in my book:o

Bit of Trivia. Remember about 10 years ago, all these 70 and 80 bands suddenly leapt out of retirement and hit the road again? Apparently a lot of them used a Seppo investment adviser who got a bit up himself, and blew the lot on some 'highly speculative' investments and then shot thru.
Oops, there goes the super!
Hence dust off the glad rags, have a shave (or not) and hit the road - due to overwhelming demand, of course.

So many albulms...... so little space to wite them down.
From reading the thread I feel it is very subjective, but mostly I think it depends on the age of the individual and generally the music that sticks with them is from between mid teens to mid 20's. On the whole whether we like it or not we end up having an "era" of music where we sit. Some embrace that, others (like me) try to not be boxed, but I still end up with the same 10 or so albulms in my classics lists and they all reside around the grunge era of the 90's.
You see i'm like Felder, I like RHCP, but to me blood sugar sex migik is heaps better than californication. I was in year 11 in 1990 when it came out in Aus.
My father intro'd me to Tom Waits too, but I like some of his newer stuff better, not real new but sordfishtrombone, raindogs, and bone machine are standouts for me.
OK albulms - as at time of writing, music means a lot to me so I change this list quite regularly. No particular order.
Foo fighters - The colour and the shape
Metallica - Load (purists will lynch me, but the new direction was cool)
U2 - Actung baby - again totally new direction and groundbreaking
Nirvana - smells like teen spirit
Bruce springsteen - born in the usa
I could go on and on and on..... these are standouts for me because they were in a lifechanging period, I would also say that at the moment they would not be considered "classics" like some of the previos names, but also most of those are 70's albums and therefore have had an extra 20 or so years to earn the title. We'll check back in a decade to see how I'm fairing :D :D

The orginal album, not the soundtrack. I've got the movie on DVD. Not a great movie but still good for a listen with the sound up.

Rage Against the Machine - RATM - angry young men.
Good boy! Rage are definately in my top five all-time bands, and definately the best gig I have ever been to...........watched (in awe)...jumped...sweated and drank to them at The Palace in St kilda in, I think, about '95. Also have got an awesome DVD "Live at the Grand Olympic Auditorium" which has a lot of footage of when they played at the 2000 Democratic National Convention............heaps of people got caned by Riot police...shooting rubber bullets straight at people instead of bouncing them off the ground like they're supposed to.

I'm almost with you there Felder, its a toss up between the RHCP albums, but I think the earlier Cruel Sea albums were better!!:D
Hard to stop at 5 albums isn't it! Michelle Shocked 'Short sharp shock' is close in my top 10; for the real old stuff I guess a Rolling Stones album should be included...'Get your Ya Yas out' was a good live album, but love listening to 'Goats Head Soup'; Led Zep, 'Physical graffitti'; AC DC, 'If you want blood' another cracker of a live album.
Of course its all really subjective, and most people default back to music that equates with their good old days...but I have suspicions about people that sort of stop listening. Does that mean their own good times ceased? I mentioned the Desert Island albums to my boss today, a real music groupie, and he said something about depending on your mood, then he changed tack and said "Depends on which island!" :D LOL

Watched rockwiz Sat night, he did a great job you're right. How about Sarah Mcleaod though, she fully held her own with angry, she has a great rock voice, taking over the next generation of Suzie Demarchi (baby aminals).
Master Splinter, and others of the genre - did you catch SBS last Tuesday. On Hot docs they had a 1 1/2 doco on punk and its roots - The velvet underground, Bad brains, dead kennedys, clash, pistols, black flag etc etc. I taped it and watched last night. Quite good. What I would give to go to a Henry Rollins spoken word concert, that guy is sooo articulate for a punk rocker :)

Never ever could single out any 1 not even 50 albums would do, however I still lament the theft of my copy of "moving in" by the Strange Tenants, have kept an eye out for 15 years trying to locate another. When SWMBO & I were teenagers we were quite fond of everything Ska a bit of punk stuff and in particular the Clash:cool: .
But then again I'm a musical slut, it's all good stuff if it makes you feel good:o

The Red hot chili peppers have released a new album STADIUM ARCADIUM.
excellent album IMHO. 2 discs and 2 hrs of great music.
