Hi all
The intarsia I am currently making has some redgum pieces I would like to darken with Red Oil. Has anyone used Red Oil with a Traditional Wax finish? Are they compatible? Could I use EEE, Red Oil then Traditional Wax for finishing?
Cheers

I have used Organoil under UBeaut Traditional Wax. You just have to give the oil quite some time to dry (days). It darkened the redgum for me.
I normally give it a light coat of shellac first to raise the grain, sand it smooth and then apply the oil. Leaving the oiled piece in the sun for 30 minutes tends to give a good finish. I have been told there is a reaction in the oil that is accelerated by ultra violet light.

Don't use EEE first as it may exclude the oil from the timber. Can't say I know anything about red oil but so long as it is perfectly dry there is no reason why you can't use Traditional over the top even EEE if you wish.

Thanks for your replies Rob and Neil ... I will do some sample pieces with Red Oil and Organoil finished with Trad Wax to compare the colours.
Thanks again
