Hi

My searching for a finish for my router table top (32mm mdf) has turned up a note from a guy in the states who finishes his with 4 coats of TUNG/POLY and wax.

Any idea what this would be. Imagine a blend of Tung oil and Polyurethane and then buffed with wax???.

What proportions would you mix it?

cheers

Tung (or substitute) and poly = Danish oil.

There's a recipe on one of the Oz woodturners' sites. (I posted the url a while ago, prob. on the turners' forum; do a search if you have the energy).

I'd leave the wax out though; you don't want traces on your timber to interfere with your finish.

Don't forget too seal the edges, as MDF is very porous on cut surfaces.
Use a sanding/sealer first
