So I wanted to play basketball at least once a month this year. Well it is Sunday and I thought I should go and meet the target for the month.
5 minutes into the game. Some bozo missed the shot so I had to get up there and grab the damn ball. Got the ball and felt a pop in my right knee and another pop.
Ohhhhhh……:( :( :( :( :(
Saw the doctor right away and lucky nothing is broken. It could have been a lot worse. I will be on crutches for a while, no work, no shed time.:( Well at least I can chat with you lot all day long now. Could it be the end of my playing time? I hope not.:(
Oh dear lord what have I done to deserve this? Why does it always happen to good honest citizen? I am sure there are plenty of bastxxx out there God can punish but why me???
It is hurting so much:( :( :( and I think I need a hug.:( :( :( :(

Hope you get well soon.
Remember the Panadine fort(sp)
ps: You can hobble out to the wood work.
All you need to do is get the nail gun out and fix a board down the side of the leg so the knee does not bend.;)

Oh how awful!! <_< here's the hug everyone seems to have neglected to give you, poor thing
&&&&&&{Wongo}}}}
Don't forget, there's always the sketch pad :D You could could brainstorm the next project ;)
Now I'm no rocking horse expert.... by far! but when I was laid up with the reconstruction of my husbands childhood horse on my mind, I took out my sketch pad, and designed it some costumes, I'm no seemstress either, so mum is currently in the process of creating them. There is a knight's charger cape, and a circus outfit, and when I was bored with that, I started creating little accesories, out of model ply, cardboard, and papier mache, like a little water bag, and billy for a stackhorse outfit, and a troopers hat for a light horse outfit, a unicorns horn....... Now the kids can dress the horse up, to match their dress ups, which is great!
(When I finally get it finished)
get well soon, and stay sane ;) Ratbag

Thanks guys.:)
After nearly 30 years playing ball, this is the first time I have hurt my knee. Busted both ankles and was on crutches for 3 months each time. My back is like 50 years old (just like WB’s:p ). So this is something new to me.
Will try to see a specialist ASAP. I think I will be grounded for at least 6 months. The worst part of being injured is not the pain but the memory of the moment the joint cracks.:o
I not sure if I will play again but it is so hard to give up something I’ve done all my life. I still think I can give those youngsters a good run. It is probably just tough luck or I did not warm up probably. After all 35 is still nothing.

Tough stuff, Scott!
But belay all that negative stuff about giving it up. You're 35 and you're right - that's nothing!
So you're crocked for a while. Very frustrating but don't start thinking you can't play again or you never will. The mission is to keep as fit as possible while you're unable to play - so talk to a sports physio who can design a fitness regime for you. That'll help get you back to fitness more quickly and back on court again as soon as.
DAMHIK all this stuff!
Good luck!

Oh Brett it is called a rebound dude:cool:
Thanks driver for the advice, just send me an invoice sir.:p
Well I had a sleep-in, got up and said goodbye to the girls. Booked a time to see a specialist at 4:15. Cooked my some bacon and egg.:D
Yes it is very frustrated being disabled. Maybe it time for me to settle down and do some soul searching, to find the real me. Hey maybe I should do some meditation or do some of that ‘Far Lone Gone” stuff:D or is it “Fart Long Gone”?:D

Sympathies to you Scott. Similar thing happened to me. Best advice (from a sport-mad anaethsetist) after wasting time and $$ on charlatans, was to "Get a referral to an orthopaedic surgeon. He'll do an MRI, find the problem and fix it". Well, that's what happened, and I could have been pain-free 12 months sooner.
Good luck.

Someone please make me a wooden leg.:D
OK one good news and one bad news. The good news is the knee is fine and it should heal ok. The bad news is it is not strong enough to do all the sharp turnings, twisting and jumping in basketball. If I still want to play then I need a knee re-construction which I am not prepared to do.
I guess this is it. I will have to switch to swimming, running or even tai chi.
It is a heartbreaking moment:( but hey life goes on right.:)

Scott,
Sorry to hear about the knee, and the end of your basketball career; but there are plenty of other less demanding sports that a young whipper-snapper like yourself should still be able to engage in. Anyway, this seems like a perfect opportunity to get into TurboCAD.

You're lucky Scott. My wife did eactly the same thing, only she actually snapped the medial ligament and had to have a reconstruction, involving the ligament being stretched across and stapled in place. The scar is about a foot long (days before keyhole surgery). She still plays netball with a knee brace but basketball is out.
Do you own a netball skirt? :p

Best wishes from the UK for a speedy recovery.
Turned 40? Been there done that!
I expect you have had a good innings, very few men play with big balls after 40 so time to change to the small one and a caddy. Hope Al. doesn't read this one.

Only a few weeks ago I thought most basketball players have a bad knee but I didn’t. So my knees must be pretty strong. Isn’t it ironic?:o
Thinking about it now, I was very lucky. At least I can walk again this soon. Once a bloke landed on my foot and dislocated his ankle. The foot (shoe) pointed side way and it wasn’t pretty to watch.

I suffered a Potts Fracture of my left ankle ( Potts is a really really really bad one :eek::eek: ) in 1992. Had two lengths of wire 450mm long threaded through all the smashed mess:(:(:(. My shin bone is still tender to touch and I'll never walk without a limp. Damn Go-Karts.
