View Full Version : A very cranky Mrs Wongo

We thought it was appropriate to celebrate Australian Day with a good Chinese meal. So we went and we ate. If you’ve been to a Chinese restaurant before then would probably notice some tables get complimentary soup before the meal and fruit after the meal but some tables don’t.

We knew that some Chinese restaurants do serve free soup and fruit but some only offer it to the Chinese. In our case we usually have to ask or we get nothing. This time I was kind of angry because I am sick and tired of asking. I had a go at the waiter briefly and let it go quietly. However, my wife wanted to make a big deal out of it this time.

She went over to the manager. “Excuse me; I think your service is appalling. You discriminate against Australian. It is wrong and we will never come again.” And people were starring and everything.

She was cranky, ever my MIL said she has never seen her so angry like that. Well she is married to me and the mother of my children after all.:D

So you know what to do next time you see the next table are happily enjoying their soup and fruit.

Cheers:)

News to me, is this a Chinese New Year thing or is it meant to happen all the time? Closest I have seen to a free fruit in the local Chinese restaurants is a bowl of plastic fruit on the front counter

Hi Wongo

I think this just about says it all;

In our case we usually have to ask or we get nothing. This time I was kind of angry because I am sick and tired of asking

I would not have bothered going back in the first place.......Crap service is not race specific and I think aussies are much worse in general.

Vote with your fleet.;)

cheers

Mrs Wongo definitely did the right thing in complaining, if the boot was on the other foot they would be the first to complain.

Only complain about the service and the food after you have had your meal.

Serving staff and the kitchen staff WILL do nasty things to your food, including spitting in it, stirring your drinks with their willie etc.

This really happens.

.

wanna go there for lunch with me ? :D

But seriuosly, although I see Wongo's point, (I know - he should put it away:eek: ), how can you really complain about not getting something which is complimentary? Surely if it's free, it's up to them who they give it too. If, on the other hand, you are agrieved about not getting it, well, don't go there again. It's not worth the fuss in my opinion.

Yup, I'll gladly stir your drinks with my willie. I don't drink, drinks that need stirring.

Me and the LOML and the MIL went out to a Japanese and Korean (strange combo I know) restaurant last night.

We were chuffed to be given a complimentary plate of palate cleaning fruit.

I've never had this in a Chinese restaurant.

Until today, I didn't even know I was being snubbed.

It's probably my fault for being a gwai lo. :(

(actually when you look up rude in the dictionary it says - see Chinese waiter) ;)

Gumby what if I used the term “part of the deal” instead of “complimentary”. Would you feel differently? In the restaurant we all pay for the business, we all pay for the service. Why do we get treated differently?

Sure we could have walked away as we did so many times before but ignoring it doesn’t make them right.

Would like to see how you react when you realise every table in the steak house get free garlic bread and salad except yours.

Mate, I'm with Craig on this. I eat chinese a lot and have never been offered a freebee or extras as part of the deal. I just can't see the point in your argument. That's all - not trying to be difficult. ;) But it does come back to on e thing, don't go there if that's how you feel.

Are you sure you aren't being a little over sensitive ?

Fair enough, but it's still their call. If that's how they are then it's their loss. Don't give them the opportunity again.

I agree with Gumby. we eat at chinese heaps (not me and gumby:eek: ) and havnt been offered any freebies and it dosnt bother me because i dont go out to get them in the first place. and how would i know if the table beside me get them, i dont perv on what they eat. id say stop being so sensitive and move on. if you want free soup go to the salvos:o

Gumby mate, you still think I am whinging about not getting something for free don’t you? Trust me I am not that kind of bloke. In fact I couldn’t careless.

I know what is going on. They only offer it you if you are Chinese or speak Chinese. Don’t you think it is wrong?

Sorry wongo, but i think my prob is im to layed back. I couldnt give a rats if someone got a freebie that i didnt, i couldnt care less. but having said that, ill probably be shot down for this, but it dose sound a little bit racist to me, but thats just mho

I couldnt give a rats if someone got a freebie that i didnt, i couldnt care less.

So we have something in common.:)

Friends remember this. MOST (not all) Chinese Seafood restaurants serve soup and fruit as part of the service, attraction, freebie or what whatever you call it. It costs them money to make so it will go to your bill.

When I say Chinese Seafood restaurant I mean a large restaurant with fish tanks. Not your little local Chinese take-away.

Only if the bowl has a heater under it to bring the whole mess up to a palatable temperature:D

Scott,

If the restaurant gives or witholds freebies dependent on the race of its customers, it seems like an obnoxious and stupid policy to me. Do they really want to antagonize their non-Chinese customers? Maybe a threat to report them to the appropriate authority that deals with racial discrimination would make them see the error of their ways. Essentially they are making non-Chinese customers pay for the freebies that they hand out to their Chinese customers.

Let me tell you another secret.

You know what you order a lobster or mud crab. They always show it to you in a plastic bag. Oh yes it is alive and fresh.

2 things they can do in the kitchen.

1. Put it back to the tank and get a frozen one (a lot cheaper) from the freezer.
2. Chop up the crab or lobster into pieces and keep a couple pieces. Eventually they will have enough to make another dish.

I don’t normally go out of my way to make sure every piece is there. However, it is pretty obvious when you see a whole mud crab in the plastic bag but only one claw found in the plate.

You Chineseseszes are an unethical lot. First ya don't give out the frebies like ya sposed to, then sell a nice fresh dish, only to replace it with half a frozen easy meal. :p

Not like us honest injun ausies. If we sell you steak fit for export, then all its good for is selling overseas. :p :p And sausages, nothing as wholesome and pure a food as sausages.

My nose, my nose, it's hurting me. AAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!

Why is it dishonest? I take a container of water with me and when the station attendant isnt looking sneak a litre or 2 into the tank to get cheaper petrol:confused: $1.185 per litre and i put a litre of water in... whos the winner then:D

Many moons ago, when I had an E-Type I had a source of 105 octane av.gas. Had to wind up the ignition timing a bit, but great effect, and great idea I thought.

Regrettably, the pistons didn't
