This is from a map I spotted for sale (https://www.allbids.com.au/c/antiques-art-memorabilia/art/a-survey-of-hobsons-bay-in-the-colony-of-new-south-wales-from-hms-beagle-reproduction-limited-edition-print-of-the-original-44-x-62-cm-frame-1571294). There are some interesting names on that map of NSW. Names like Yarra, and Melbourne to say the least.

I obviously missed that bit of Australian history where Victoria must have been created by slicing off a bit of NSW.

The land mass was known as Colony of New South Wales prior to the formation of the states... One source:

https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/australia-day

But this one says it was shared with the Dutch

Not an expert :)

"Australia, once known as New South Wales," is a relevant quotation and the reason for what seemed to be a strange title on the map.
I love the maps in the second link.
