View Full Version : whats the go with installing downlights in a unit top floor fire rated ceiling?

have a unit complex 3 stories, someone wants to install downlights in the ceiling up there on the top floor, its double sheeted Frye check and obviously fire rated.
whats the deal with installing downlights properly here? whats required to keep fire rating??

If your electrician or their electrician doesn't know then talk to a certifyer.
IMHO there is too much involved safety wise to take advice/information from a forum.

No personal experience but would expect that they would need to be rated to the same fire rating as the requirements of the ceiling.

hearing and seeing conflicting information so far where i have been looking, some say fire rated light only some say you need the fire proof cone over the top and needs to be certified by as well afterwards etc.. dont know know what to believe, still researching it all.
