View Full Version : How do I disconnect this pump

Hi, I need to disconnect our rainwater pump so it can be serviced.

As you can see in the image, it’s a Claytech 3 with an Aquasaver 3/4 inch diverter.

The loop of copper pipe is the mains water. There is a stopcock on this so it’s easy enough to stop the flow while I remove the pump, but I need the mains flowing while the pump is away being serviced so it can feed our toilets and washing machine.

How do I disconnect the pump but keep the mains flowing? Is it a simple matter of unscrewing the fitting where the Aquasaver meets the pump and Screwing a plug into the Aquasaver outlet? If so what do I plug up the hole with (size, type of fitting etc)?

Cheers

Yes just fit a plug, one the same size as the fitting.

A bit of Googling leads here: https://www.tankshop.com.au/water-tank-pumps/external-pumps/claytech-c3-pressure-pump/
Specs say 1" but checking in person is recommended.

Brass: https://www.valvewarehouseaustralia.com.au/shop/fittings/brass-pipe-fittings/brass-threaded-barbed-fittings-bsp-wide-range/?attribute_pa_fitting=brass-hex-plug-bsp&attribute_pa_size=25mm-1&utm_campaign=PMax-Fittings&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=paid&utm_content=&utm_term=&adgroupid=&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwxY-3BhAuEiwAu7Y6szYq53Wcb6cOZBMMxXZ_u_qTR3ZgGZz3rckBLToz1nlQYRElfZK6JhoCfF8QAvD_BwE

Personally I would pay extra for a brass one.

Yep, and most likely 1 inch thread so use a 1 inch brass hex nipple with screwed cap, however you will need to measure the ID of the pump outlet and make sure the ID of the hex nipple is at least the same or larger.
Use thread seal only on the thread where the cap screws on, NOT on the thread where the nut seals to the hex.
There should be a washer in the nut to the pump connection which will need to stay in place, use a mirror to check.

You may get away with poly fittings but ID is very important.
Do not over tighten the fittings.

LOL left it while I had a cuppa and Droog said the same.

Ok, thanks.

Knew it was simple. Just wanted to be sure I wasn’t going to cause us to be without water for a few days.
