We have moved a shower up against an existing wall. Wall is painted on the top half. Can I prime then waterproof ovefvthe paint? Have sanded it already537513

Pretty sure most manufacturers will say no in their guides, I suspect the main issue is the unknown of how well is the paint attached.
From Dunlop's guide under surface preparation
is free from dirt, dust, oil, paint, curing compounds andany other contaminant materials

I assume you will also tile over the waterproof ?
That adds more weight that will be trying to pull the paint off.
