Wax stain removal

Hi Guys/Girls,
While fitting the hardware to a recently completed box, I managed to get some wax on the unfinished timber (Camphor Laurel). Before I just make things worse, can anyone give me some pointers on how I might remove this?

My go-to for wax removal is Liberon Wax and Polish remover. It should be readily avaiable in the UK. These instructions are from an Aussie website:

How to use
Application
For best results soak a pad of Liberon Ultra Fine Steel Wool (grade 0000) in Wax and Polish Remover, squeeze out the excess and working on a small area at a time, gently wash the surface going with the grain where possible.
Allow a few minutes for the Wax and Polish Remover to work, then while the surface is still wet use a clean lint-free cloth to wipe off all the old softened wax.
Repeat this process until all the old wax is removed. Allow 24 hours for the treated surface to dry completely before re-finishing.

Important: This product may damage newly applied French polishes, lacquers, varnishes and sealers. Always test product on a spare surface or inconspicuous area for colour, compatibility and end result.

Precautions
Wear suitable heavy duty gloves. Do not pour into plastic containers or use on plastic or vinyl surfaces. Dispose of used steel wool and cotton cloths outside to reduce vapour build-up and fire hazard. Do not use on water-based varnish.

Lots of other wax removers online but this is the only one I’ve used.

I didn't mention in the original post that it is only a couple of small spots from the wax that I use on the screws and, as I'll be using a wipe-on Poly, do you think that the wax that may not come out will affect the finish?

Hi Luckyb,

If it’s just a few spots I’d probably try brown paper and a warm iron first just to soak up whatever I could, then try mineral turps on a cotton bud. I’m not a professional, though, so if you hang on a bit I’m sure someone with more specialist knowledge will be along to advise you.
