What’s the best decking oil?

Was thinking about Cutek Extreme CD50

I used intergrain ultra clear water based on my external doors and post. Now I have to strip it back and do it again.

So going back to oil based for timber.

I Used Cutek Extreme CD50 on my deck earlier this year and would highly recommend it.

The only thing to keep in mind is that it takes a while to dry even in warmer temperature. I waited for 2 days between coats and second coat took about a week to dry even in April. Make sure after second coat to wipe down so there is no thick residue on top. Also to apply it when weather is bit warm in Melbourne like in October. Too cold and wet atm.

Our deck is the main access to the back yard from in the house and we have a dog so drying time is a major factor for us.

I started off using Cabot's Natural Decking Oil but it was weathering very quickly in the area of the deck that get more sun and was needing recoating after 6 months or so in those areas.
Spring last year I tried Feast Watson and it appears to be lasting much better.

Personally, I've just washed it down with warm water and it takes the recoat

I use Cutek CD50 on balustrades and have started using it on all my exterior timber.

Just slop it on!

After lots of research , I have used Cutek CD50 on my new merbau verandah.

I only applied one coat on all sides, as was waiting for a colour decision from my wife. Unfortunately, 6 months later, we have greying on the outer extremity boards that are exposed to the sun.

Now we have decided on a colour ( just waiting for the weather to get a bit warmer so I can recoat).

I am assuming that adding colour to a new coat will not restore evenly across the boards. Any cost effective suggestions on how to deal with the faded areas? I am not sanding!!

You could try the Cutek wood cleaner, which should help remove tannins from the areas less exposed naturally. And/or extra coats of the coloured mix to the areas that really need it.

Can I assume that the areas more exposed to the sun are also exposed to the rain?

Clean the decking with an oxalic acid based timber restorer; it will eat away the grey oxidised surface and give you "clean" wood again. Use a decent quality long-handled scrubbing brush; as well as helping to remove the grey it will also even out the resulting colour.

You really need to do it in the shade though; so either pick a time of day when the light is reduced or wait until you get a day with heavy cloud cover.
