Heres to:
The late great WATSON(Noel Watson)
17 December 1942 to 10 October 2013

Watson became a member of Woodwork Forums, September 2006 and was an administrator here on Woodwork Forums. He went over to Renovate Forums as Administrator when the forums were taken over by Oneflare.

What most people don't know about him is that Noel was a lot more than that. When Rock n Roll was in its infancy here in Australia, Noel was in the middle of the Rock n Roll scene. Writing songs for Rock stars and playing with bands like the Thunderbirds and in RnR Idol Merve Bentons band the Tamlas. He later ended up in the Australian Army for many years from 1968 to 1987, serving with distinction in Vietnam and....

Then more bands, a goat farm and a whole lot more. Here is a link to Noels brilliant, iconic, version of Waltzing Matilda (http://youtu.be/s5cyPtwOskw) at 1988 VFL Grand Final. Have a look at some of the comments below the video they're well worth a look to give you a feel of what we had and lost.

Noel also made regular appearances on the Ray Martin "Midday Show" and Bert Newton "Good Morning Australia" in the late 80's & 90's.

Below is a link to Noel Watson Story. Click on the link for a lot more about a great man. Been gone for 10 years almost but definitely not forgotten by those of us who knew and loved him.

Someone had to kick this forum off so this should do it. If you watch Noels videos be warned that some of them may bring a tear to your eye.

Ten years already.
Thanx for the reminder. That performance still brings a tear to my eye.

Brings a tear of joy and sadness to my eye with most of his songs. Here's a few more. Not all tear jerkers but shows his love for Australia.

There are a lot of Noels songs on the internet thanks to partner the lovely Ren Busch posting them every now and again.

Yesterday for son James RIP (https://youtu.be/6J4sXJ8ab9g)
Possible tear jerker for some

Loved him and will do others of his kind. He showed me the likes of John Prine for reasons I understand:

...and this guy, who Noel was surprised to find was a Scott but was a little more entranced with the old bloke in the background:

I met Noel Briefly at a Melbourne Woodworking show, a person who you felt an immediate connection to. I recall that I had a pkt of TimTams in my backpack that he helped in devouring. This man had loads of character ,now having read the story of him I can see he was so impressionable that even now he would be sorely missed by those that knew him well.

Sorely missed by almost all who knew him.

One a/hole (banned and rightly so by Noel) from Reno forums sent him death threats and other unsavoury messages for a long time until reported to authorities. But that's a story for another day.

Noels music will live on for us thanks to YouTube and Rens occasional postings.

I never met the bloke but some years back I was looking for a part for my router and was happy to pay for it and postage. Noel replied and sent me the part for free which was not expected, along with a video of router craft. It was only after his passing that I found out a little about his life as I had no idea. A very unassuming man. I have watched videos of him singing on the interweb many times over, including singing Waltzing Matilda at the GF.
