Is it wrong to enjoy knocking together a fence out of rough sawn hardwood and HT wire? Does this mean I'm not a real woodworker? I didn't even notch the rails in. I bought those large coated screws that you simply drive in. Well OK I did predrill the hardwood because I can't help myself but relatively speaking its just; clamp 4.8m rail, drive in screws. It's a rough sawn fence so nothing needs to be perfect. Just as long as it looks neat from 20m away. Actually might look weird if it was perfect anyway.
"Knocking together" probably isn't right either. I oiled everything with 2 coats of linseed oil and chamfered the post tops. Couldn't resist making it look nice for the first few months.
I did not enjoy doing the posts via compaction but aside from that, it was satisfying to build something that doesn't require much precision.
I attached 1500mm black welded wire dog mesh with black hex screws to make it dog proof. Which is the whole purpose. I have to tidy up the two ends of the mesh later, because so many other projects can't wait. The corner posts are only 1.3m so I will need to get a bit creative for the two end panels. Still gonna tick it off the todo list anyway.
Another pleasing aspect is that I bought just the right amount of materials. I ordered one extra post and one or two extra rails. Used up the rails and only have the extra post left over.
