Hi,

Can anyone tell me what these were made of, and would they have contained asbestos at all? I've been removing them from my house to replace with PVC as tree roots had destroyed them, they looked like they were concrete or something and were in approx 0.5 meter sections all joined together?

Cheers

Trenboy,

If they are the white-ish (concrete) coloured pipes (rather than the orange terracotta coloured ones) they probably most certainly do contain asbestos :( .

Hope you are wearing a dust mask plus throw away overalls & gloves.

As chrisp said: those crumbly grey cement pipes are a real good candidate for 'A'. And any competent testing would cost $$ & waste time - just treat it as dangerous regardless.

Don't smash 'em up, wrap them in plastic or similar dust proof stuff & "Dispose of thoughtfully" - a deep landfill sounds good. You don't want that stuff blowing about the neighbourhood & you don't want to have to get someone in to decontaminate your yard either.

If nothing else,

KEEP THEM DAMP or WET

but do not splash when watering.
And what bsrlee said!!!!!!

Some still have no idea of ALL the effects of "Asbestos"
