Hi all,

Thanks for having me.

I've been working with my hands for nearly 20 years now, but primarily with voltages and invisible signals; so building things out of wood is a completely new medium to me.

I'm currently working on a hide-away/cat run for our cat, that will also house her drinking fountain. Making it with some 18mm Marine Ply I just got from Bunnings. Where does everyone get their wood in Melbourne?

I'm a sucker for a good quality tool, especially if it's marketed well, and I've already found that I need to be careful as I dive head first into this hobby. :;

Thanks again,

Thom.

Hi Thom,

Welcome to the Woodwork Forums. Our unofficial master of welcomes' (Crowie) must have missed your post so I'll say what he would have.
"G'Day & Welcome to the Great Southern Land and to a top forum......
There are quite a few members from across the USA and the rest of the world.....
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum.
Enjoy your woodwork....."

I personally like Mathews Timber (https://www.mathewstimber.com.au/) in Knoxfield. I don't know if that's close to you or not as you have kept us guessing with a general "Melbourne" location (tease!). Mathews has a pretty good range. If you let us know your area there might be some better suggestions closer to you.
You're not alone there with having a tool problem. My advise is to have only one key to the workshop and keep it as messy as possible so the fairer sex don't feel like entering and seeing the new tools.

Cheers
Lyndon

Thanks Lyndon.

I'm living in the inner western suburbs, but I don't mind a drive out east if there's something I need! I've found Urban Salvage in Spotswood around the corner from me, and Timber Revival in Braybrook is a short drive. So when it's time to make a couple of requesite Chopping Boards, I'll definitely check them out.
