Get Foxtel and you can see them all. Provided you aren't partying with Grunt.

I liked "Asterix and Obelix vs Caesar", but I prefer its sequel "Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra" much more. Both films were on Foxtel's World Movies, so my guess is that the sequel will soon come to SBS. If you're a fan of Monica Belucci, you'll like it!:)
I'm an old fan of the series and found the sequel much closer to the books (especially the book it was based on). The sequel also has some funny scenes with the pirates, who were notably missing from the first film.
Apparently both films are virtually impossible to buy on DVD, especially with just the english subtitles.

Caesar was in the mask. The Gauls did a deal with Caesar (no taxes and automonous province) for his assistance.
Made a double strength potion and beat up the Roman army that attacked the village. The guy in purple/lilac (?) wouldn't share out the potion with his soldiers.
The double strength potion made copies of Asterix and Oblix. Oblix didn't get the girl with the large mammaries, although he made a copy and almost kissed her.
The Gauls had a big party afterwards, and Caesar sent Oblix a birthday cake of legionares with candles on their helmets for Oblix to beat up.
Thats all you missed.

Nope,
that was a surrogate "magic" potion brewed up with some leaves and given to the Britons when Asterix and Obelix were unable to get a barrel of the real thing to them.

The problem with Asterix is that I have trouble believing that it actually happened :D

I caught the end of it, and it sucked me in. Girl? What girl ??
TBH didn't know there was a film version at all...where have I been?:p I used to get right into the books and still have a couple somewhere! But I think it they did it justice.

I'm totally freaked out that people here actually know asterix and actually read the books before!
I'm french-canadian and was raised on that stuff. I had all the books as a kid and my dad had them before me. Gotta get me an english version of it, see if the translations were well done at least :D

There is absolutely NOTHING that an australian can not freak you out about. As for the quality of the translations. Of course they were stuffed up. It's traditional. Just don't tell us ... Al and others might suffer
Richard
it's late, and I've had too many rough reds and the aussies could only get a draw in the cricket and the lovely Jan had to go home and ... ahhhh fuggit :(

There is an version of the first film with english translations written by Terry Jones of Monty Python fame. An english translation of the second version was done by Miramax studios. From what I have read on internet forums, neither translations are any good.
A large part of the series' appeal was the many puns and other wordplays in the Asterix series, which can easily be lost in translation. I think the success of Asterix in its english version was due to the great translations done by Anthea Bell and Derek Hockridge. Apparently, such skills just weren't applied to the english translations of the films.
I think you're better off with the subtitles, unless you're fortunate enough to speak French!
Also, it looks like work has already started on the third film based on my favourite Asterix title, "Asterix and the Olympic Games". :)

I'm an Asterix fan from waaaaaaaay back and have all the original books back when they were less than a fiver to buy. Now there a smidge under $30.
Can definately recommend if you go Foxtel, go digital IQ. All you have to do is check the program you want to record and hit the "R" button and it'll record for you on it's built in hard drive, approx 60hrs worth.
You can also record onto tape from the hard drive, sooooooo if anyone wants a copy of the last two Asterix's let me know.
Cheers & Beers
