G'Day to all!

I think all of them know about Ukranian war against russian invaders. A lot of you saw horror pictures with fired Ukrainian people, fully destroyed Ukranian cities.

But I'm not Reuters or CNN photographer and will not post such horror photos, I'm simple Ukrainian man who would like to share another pictures which describe relation of Ukrainian people to this war - mems, jokes and so on.
All textes will be translated into English.

Let's begin - I hope this man is well known around the world. The text is "Good evening! I'm coming to Ukraine.".
To be continued...

This is not joke or mem. Just photo of unknown great-grandmother from Kyiv taken at the beginning of the war.
She keeps in her hands a sheet of paper with the following phrases:

My name is Irina (Irene).
I am 98 years old.
I survived famine in Ukraine 1932-1933, Hitler and nazi during II World War.
I will survive liliput putin with his locust.
Glory to Ukraine!

Snikolaev28, Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting. In Australia we are have continuing television coverage of happenings in Ukraine and I am confident in saying that our population overwhelmingly sympathises with your country and what you are going through. We only wish that we could do something to help push back this illegal and murderous invasion. It is so heartening to see your post and know that you, and hopefully your fellow citizens, are keeping a sense of humour which can surely help you get through this crisis. The very best of wishes to you and everyone in Ukraine.

Thank you for posting. Our hearts go out to you and your comrades during this terrible time. I think your memes are fabulous and mimic an old cartoon series from the 1970s called "Love is..."

Love Is... (loveiscartoon.com) (https://www.loveiscartoon.com/)

However, I think you knew this and I have only included the link for younger members. The New Zealand connection is not so far from Australia and there are many "Kiwis" on this Forum. You can consider it a very appropriate thread.

These Woodwork Forums endeavour to be non-political and usually such threads are disallowed. However, I have noticed that on occasions events are viewed as to be of such importance that the owner and moderators of this Forum have allowed their continuance: I sincerely hope that this is one of those times. Consequently, I fully expect that any ensuing discussion will be civilised and respectful from our part.

My own view is that a military action such as the Russians have perpetrated would have been criminal even if there was a case for it, because the loss of life on this scale cannot be justified. As it is, to invoke centuries old boundaries, long since all but forgotten, is diabolical and unforgiveable.

I will look forward to any further light-hearted comment that you care to make on this tragic subject.

Regards
Paul

As a Kiwi on this forum I wish to second everything Paul says.

I spend at least an hour and a half everyday watching news clips about the war - and I hope and pray you guys get what you need to beat back the invader. You are doing the dirty work for most of Europe, and if you loose the world will be a less safe place - even for those of us at the far end of the world (Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific).

Thank-you for posting.

Sniko, we hope you and your friends & family are OK and as safe as possible.
Last night I watched episode 1 of 'Servant of the People' with English sub-titles. It had me rolling with laughter, to realise that politicians are the same all over the world.

If anyone in Australia wants to watch it, it's on SBS On Demand. Not sure if it's on free-to-air as well.

I found it on Youtube. Unfortunately the subtitles ran out half way through episode 4 (they were back for episode 5). Now I'm having trouble distinguishing the character from the real Zelenskii :q.

But of course the reality in Ukraine is no comedy. I wish Ukrainians well in their fight against the invader.

Yes, reality in Ukraine is no comedy, and very often is a tragedy, but we have to smile and live.
I think the most part of Australia citizens like drink a little cold beer and meat roasted on barbecue. But if your barbecue was destroyed?
Take a rear part from russian 220 mm rocket 'Uragan', fired to your city, some bottle of beer and you will be more than happy!

AND you can build up a stash of bottles to throw back as Molotovs.

Humour at a time of adversity is important.
I've never been in that position but one of the few things my father told me about his time in WWII (he was a camp kitchen hand) was when an air raid siren sounded and all the kitchen staff headed for a nearby small slit trench. The first guy into the trench fell over and the others just piled in on top. No bombs were dropped and minutes later when the all clear sounded the guy at the bottom farted and everyone laughed but it instantly got everyone out of the trench. Later that day Dad was on the detail to lengthen the trench

Putin dies, he is in hell, he is given a day off for bad behavior.
He goes to a Moscow bar, orders a drink asks the bartender:
Is Crimea ours? -Yes.
And the Donbas?-yes,
Kyiv?-We got that too.
Satisfied, Putin drinks, and asks, how much do I owe you?
5 euros.

I saw this report on "Crikey". Somebody may have read my post above. I assume this is in addition to the previous six Bushmasters.

Bushmaster vehicles and M777 howitzer guns were onboard a flight that departed from RAAF Base Amberley, near Ipswich, on Thursday.
The federal government will send 20 Bushmaster Protected Mobility Vehicles, and six M777 howitzers with ammunition, as part of its aid to the Eastern European nation. "

Cava

Mute point but most aircraft manufacturers aspire to sell their product to other countries so maybe not Russian owned. Aeroflot is the Russian flag carrier although arguably this cargo version could be owned by anybody. Aeroflot interestingly own American Boeings and European Airbus among others.

The only other information I can make out on the plane is "International Cargo Transporter," which despite my poor command of the language, doesn't sound inherently Russian.

My identification of aircraft likewise is poor and only slight better than my two words of Russian, but if the plane in question is an Antonov AN-124 (very heavy cargo transporter) I believe it may have been manufactured in the Ukraine or at least parts of it.

More questions than answers there I am afraid.

Paul

Antanov is a Ukrainian manufactured aircraft flying for a Ukrainian airline.

As with all things during the soviet era the Russians claimed it as their own.

According to Australian Aviation, the last time an Antonov AN-124 came to Australia was September 2021.

If this is accurate, then the photographs are not reflective of the article implying this is a recent event.

Are we certain that photo is in Australia? Also, would an Australian flight have flown direct into the Ukraine? Lastly, the only concern I would really have is if the vehicles had not arrived where they are needed: Ukraine.

This report from Australian Aviation seems contrary to that or perhaps the previous reference is about the destroyed AN-226:

G'Day to All.
Just a new viral joke or mem.

Some explanations.

As you know there are military orders and medals. In Australia, according to "Australian Goverment Defence" (Access Denied (https://www.defence.gov.au/)) there are campaing medals awarded to members of the Armed Forces, Allied forces and civilians participating in specified military campaigns.
For example I've found such Australian campaign medals as

- Afganistan Medal
- Iraq Medal
- Rhodesia Medal.

So you should understand what these medals are.

In Soviet Union there were campaign medals too, one category of such medals (WW II) was concerned to capturing of ennemies cities - Medal "For the Capture of Berlin" or Medal "For the Capture of Vienna".

Let's return to the present days.

11 November was liberated from russians the Kherson city - capital of the Kherson province of the Ukraine. Sometimes we call Kherson as a "Water Mellon capital of the Ukraine", local farmers are really produced thousand tonnes of watermellons...

But now about russians - this is not 'second army of the world', this is 'First Thief and Maraudeur army of the world".
Russian soldiers are maradeurs for 100%.
They were robbed all - autos, velos, spinnings, toilet bowls, clothing, even used and no-washed men's and women's underwear...

But in the Kherson russian commanders not simple solder stolen a racoon from local private zoo...

So Ukrainians have proposed design of new campaign medals of the russian army - the translation is "For the Capturing of the Racoon".

Snikolaev

Good that Ukranians continue with humour during these tragic, disgraceful and disastrous times. Although the liberation of Kherson is indicative of the tide of war changing.

I can see a whole raft of opportunity for "glorious" Russian war medals.

I was going to suggest a few "accolades," but on reflection, it is not my place. Let us just hope that the weight of all these medals brings the Russians to their military knees.

Stay strong.

Paul
