I'm in the process of finishing some platters using Organoil Clear Finishing Oil. In the side ends of the platters which are tassie oak, I've used panel pins to hiold the end in place as I don't have clamps long enough. My question is whagt is the best method of covering the nail holes - before or after oiling, and with what product. I've tried on a sample using a light woodworkers putty, before I oiled - but the oils looks as if it's soaked into the putty and make it much darker.
Should I use putty, or some other technique - before or after oiling.
Look forward to your advice
