Staining a treated pine deck?

We've put in a new deck and unfortunately had to use treated pine (I hate the stuff) 'cause the termites around here will eat just about anything else.

So now we've got this great deck that's a butt ugly greeny colour. The question is what do/can we stain it or oil it with to make it look better? I've kept a bunch of offcuts for testing finishes, painting it is a last resort. I've searched the archives but didn't see much info.

There's heaps of different products on the market: Feast & Watson and Cabots come to mind. You can buy deck oil in various stains from natural through to dark colours. I used some natural oil on a T/P deck once and it was a big improvement. You're supposed to let it weather for a few weeks first and then clean it with a tin of stuff they sell for the purpose (forget the name) but then that could just be a way of getting more money out of you. I didn't bother, just hit it with the oil and it looked and lastest fine.

Well that's good news.

The guy at Mitre10 told me that TP doesn't take a stain well, he couldn't recommend anything that would work, but he was happy to sell me something that might or might not produce a good result, and no, sorry, it only comes in a four litre tin. Big help:mad:. At least I didn't cop the blank stare, which seems to be the standard response when you ask em a simple question.

I've just restained the back verandah using Wattyll deck stain. Good product but still needs 2 coats.

But as it is twice as expensive as decking oil I'd give that a go first. Check with Bunnings as they have sample boards showing the different products and colours.

Hi guys , ive just added a 90 x 22 treated pine decking onto my caravan &
annexe
its 4.8m x 3.8m , Question 1 is how long do i need to wait before i stain
& oil ? Q:2 my verandah is only going to cover half of the decking , will there
be any issues with this ? I got a great price for the t/p it was only $1.60 l/m
