Hello, trying out dewaxed white shellac and talc ( all Ubeaut products) to fill the large open grain on kwila / merbau. Brushing on 50ml shellac, 50ml metho and a level teaspoon of talc, forms a milky white combination.
One brushed coat will not be enough to fill the grain.
Wondering how long to leave it before applying the 2nd coat. It is hot here at the moment, 30degC, 30% humidity
Any suggestions please?

Neil recommends about an hour in his book. Probably best to apply your mix to a test piece so you don't end up making a mess of your project. Sanding between coats is recommended.

Thanks aldav. What page in the book is it? I have the earlier 4th edition, 2002
ooooooppps. Silly bugger, found it page 38. Have read that book many times, had skipped over that as irrelevant to my work
I read the story on the opposite page about the broke chair. Nice timing, as my son just gave me his chair in pieces, to fix, all the mortice and tenon joints had separated.

Hi Dengy, I've got the 5th edition, 2016 where it's on page 38 under the heading 'Special Hint - Shellac and Talc'. On the contents page at the front of the book it's covered in the 'Shellac More Information' heading. Hope that helps.
Cheers,
David
