When you see a great photo on internet and you try so save it, many times it saves with the dopey goigle icon and then if you want to upload it elsewhere the damn icon is still there...

how can this be overcome on PCs

its water marked so people don't steal and use for copyright infringement, so its probably part of the actual image its self.

where are you getting pictures with a google icon on it?

Do you mean it shows the chrome icon when listed in file Explorer? That means you didn't download the image, but an HTML page.
Try right clicking on the image, select 'open in new tab: if that new tab shows just the image, right click on it and select save as

If I can't save a photo, I use Print Screen - prt scr - and paste into Irfanview,
then crop to size.
Any photo program should do.
You get what you see.
