Timely Reminder to check your smoke alarms

A fortnight ago our neighbours house was on fire.
The suspected culprit was a line trimmer battery charger left on overnight.
The neighbours sleep in a parents retreat under the concrete house with both adult children away, only came out to investigate the continuous sound of a smoke alarm and a few loud bangs.
This was the scene from our sunroom, I hosed the back bedroom & roof until the police stopped me.
The Fire Brigade saved the front 2/3’s but with lots of smoke and water damage.

Thanks Crowie,

Your Neighbours were lucky on a few counts, firstly you were next door, and secondly no one was hurt.

Those battery’s chargers, have been the start of more than one house fire !!!
Well done to you [emoji120][emoji120][emoji120].

Cheers Matt.

Just a note for a different way of thinking.

All of our smoke detectors were replaced when we did an addition to the house. And yes it is a pain in the posterior to change the batteries when daylight (fast time) saving ends.

HOWEVER

After a trip to the home center I discovered that the new smoke detectors have a 10 year battery. After 10 years you just replace the smoke detector. The cost over 10 years is about the same as battery costs over 10 years. Besides smoke detectors only last about 10 years.
