I clicked on the usual "new posts" button since my last visit 2 hours ago and up came 32 pages !! What the ?
I notice that on the second page, there's a heading saying 'The following threads have not been updated since your last visit but still contain unread posts' and as I said. there's 30 pages of them. I'm not sure if it's really necessary. It must be part of the upgrade I suppose.
Whats more, when you click on a post to view it and then go back to the new posts button, the post you just viewed has gone. That didn't happen before either.
I'm not sure I like it this way.:(

I don't like it either..... that's progress I s'pose. I guess the young 'uns will be all excited about it while we sit back in our rocking chairs grumbling.
P (36 pages to check since I was last on 10minutes ago :( )

I wondered what the I had done when I clicked the new posts button. It wasn't till I saw this thread near the top I settled a little.

I think it must be a bit of a hickup in the system. That was occurring when I was away for a few days and would come back and find all the pages.
I used to like it when the highlighted post became unhilighted straight after you went back to the list. Now it only happens if you click on new posts.

Just checked my "New Posts" it showed 482 pages of which the first one was NEW, this is just unnecessarily burning up my download allowance.
I want to know how to stop it. If I want old posts I'll look for them myself.

Yes. It establishes a start point from which all unread posts will remain.
Use "Quick Links - Today's Posts" to see todays.

And when I click on User CP, I have to scroll down 80 subscribed threads before I get to my greeny tree
Nope, not happy with it this way, or for our NZ brothers, not heppy. :(

Also when you get an email notification of a new post, it takes you to the first post of the thread.

It will only burn up your download allowance if you go and read every post. Just read the ones you haven't read.

Seems like every thread is marked as unread for me.
Also, I can't change the style with the Style Chooser.
I first thought it might have been my problem so I logged out and cleared my cookies and cache. Didn't fix the problem though.

The threads below have not been updated since your last visit but still contain unread posts.
Not at all, there are new threads minutes old which are there.

The link is New Posts. The only difference is its actually working now, its never worked properly in the past - If you've read a thread its nolonger new, thats why it doesnt show up when you do another search for new posts ;)
Someone complained about the new posts search not working properly in another thread, it wasn't marking 'read' threads.
A search like this one will do what most of you need - http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/search.php?do=getdaily I think?
I'll revert it back to the broken new threads search later tonight.
cheers

The problem you're faced with Steve is, we just don't like change, scares the willies out of us.
Something to do with old age I think.

If you really insist then we could run a poll, we havent had a good stoush for a while.
1. This is not "other boards".
2. I would say a lot of us long termers are quite comfortable with the old version.
3. I have viewed "other boards", and carrying on a conversation, as we often do on this forum, is no where near as easy as it is with our old broken system.

Did you check out the get daily search link I posted further up?
http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/search.php?do=getdaily
The problem with the current New posts search is it only marks threads as read once you've been inactive for 900? seconds. It also has a habit of marking unread threads as read, so we end up with:
1) read threads showing up in searches for NEW threads
2) unread threads getting marked as read (after the inactive period) even though they haven't been read.
Since the whole thing is getting people annoyed I'll leave it for Neil to sort when he has time ;)
For what its worth, a working New Posts and Get Daily search is the way it go IMO.
cheers
