Question on creating "equipment abcd Owner" threads

I've lost count of the time ive spent reading this woodwork forum and a few international ones and the into on any one machine model gets spread across threads as people ask questions.

An AV forum i belong to has in every forum an "Official make/model Owners thread" usually unique to each year as well with yearly releases of AV gear but that wouldn't really apply for most machines. Plenty of examples over at Receivers, Amps, and Processors | AVS Forum (https://www.avsforum.com/forums/receivers-amps-and-processors.90/)

These threads become the go to location for people seeking info on the model and for users with general questions, even when they become huge and long.

I've started typing up a "Harvey Ambassador C200-30 Owners Thread" a number of times today but keep backing away as it seems foreign concept outside of the AVS forum.

I got told mine is shipping out of brisbane today so really hoping to see it before xmas :)

I think there is an opportunity to gather info into an informative thread that makes it simple to find..... i'm sure some of the review threads end up serving a similar function but rarely have i seen other owners add in to a review thread.

So i'm curious, does anyone have any comments on this.

I wonder if one reason people start individual threads is that it seems more polite not to appear to hijack someone else’s thread. What you describe however is an explicit invitation for all discussion around a single machine to be in the one thread.

We already have a whole sub-forum for Triton and Festool (and Hercus and Sheraton on MWF), I don't see any reason not to have a "Master" thread for others. Perhaps not model specific, as I suspect there's a lot of overlap between different size machines of the same type, but brand specific.

A "Generic rebadged Chinese/Taiwanese xxxxx" thread for each type of machine would probably cover most people here anyway :wink: :rolleyes:

In general I support machine specific threads but I think we already have too many forums and subforms and I'm sometimes on the look out for suggesting the pulling/collapsing inactive forums. The problems with having machine specific threads, is they don't usually last long before folks start new ones or drag machine specific threads off topic. The admins could keep things tidy but they already have enough to do,

I don't think so - I tend to think the worst, ie sheer laziness in not bothering to look for related threads, or believing their post is more important, or may not be seen?
