I didn't think they'd stock it given their recent logistics problems. Plus,
I'm pretty sure you can't make anything go bang with it.

My guess would be to contact any of the chemical manufactuers in your area.
If they dont retail it, they would probably know someone that does.

Have tried to get some, it is available but it is restricted due to the fact it can be used in the manufacture of illegal drugs.:mad: What I would have had to go through was not worth the effort.:(
BTW it's about $60 to $70 for 500g.

Thanks guys, for all the replies.

I wasn't aware that this chemical had applications in the illicit
pharmaceutical industry. Speaks volumes that a chromate would
be used, because, as someone pointed out, its highly toxic.

I had intended to take precautions beyond the "rubber gloves and hold
your breath" method commonly employed in home chemistry experiments,
but this is starting to sound like one more of my "ideas best forgotten"

You can buy most lab chemicals in smaller quantities from Sigma-Aldrich (in Australia go to this link (http://www.sigmaaldrich.com/Area_of_Interest/Asia__Pacific_Rim/Australia.html)). Because they sell a big variety of lab chemicals, many of which are hazardous, you need to register etc. but that shouldn't be a problem. Sigma supplies Potassium Dichromate in many different grades, but for your purposes technical grade 98% would be fine ($56 per kg).

Very Very toxic: can be absorbed through the skin, and can be lethal:eek: !

Even any airborne particles arising from, for example, sanding an item treated with this compound can prove lethal :eek: .

There's an article in a WW e-zine I received today (forget the name, sorry!) that discusses this substance. IMO I'd stay very well clear of it.
