I bought an electronic sit/stand desk frame on eBay (which I am very, very happy with) for $400 and change. It did not come with a top which, for the money, is fine. I went and bought two Karri panels at the big green shed (BGS) and glued them into a 700mm wide desktop.
So far so good.
The finish from the factory that the BGS gets it from is rough and horrid. I sanded it back and then up to 320g; then refinished with Evolution gloss. I would have used Livos, as I have used it before, but it isn't available locally from the BGS or Carbatec. So I used what was available.
Evolution is so easy to apply and get a superior finish it feels like cheating! There must be a catch, right?
In this case, I don't have a huge emotional investment in the item. So if I have to touch this up down the track; I don't really care. But; what is the general experience with this type of product in the durability department?
I am about to make some other major furniture pieces and I like the look of this, a lot! I reckon it will look amazing on Cherry. That said, [highly] thinned Feast-Watson wipe on polyurethane also looks great on Cherry. Shellac looks great. I don't want to do a half job and regret it later.
Thoughts?
