Hello All,
Moved back to AUS about 3 years ago after 20 years in USA.
Was sad to have to sell my tools over there, and living in a small flat has meant for a slow replacement plan.
One big question I have - Where do you buy good wood?
I tend to make smaller projects; Coat racks, step stools, display pieces.
But is seems like finding anyting wider or thicker (or both) than what a bunnings type store stocks is a treasure hunt.
Where do you all shop for wood?

G'Day & Welcome to a top forum "Mal".
There are quite a stack members around Melbourne and cross Victoria plus the rest of the country.....
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum.
Enjoy your woodwork.....
Cheers crowie
PS - Watch out for local Melbourne get togethers, great way to meet like minded forum members & network...
AND may I suggest you start a new thread in general or timber sections asking about local suppliers in Melbourne as you'll get a lot more views and thus answers...

Welcome back home Mal and welcome to the forum. If you have a look at this (https://www.woodworkforums.com/f11/wood-235435) thread it might help you with your timber sourcing. Having to re-buy your tools won't be fun for the wallet but at least it should be fun for you getting a new collection of tools.

Welcome Mal...Gumtree is quite good, have found some good stuff there, fortunately where I live in central Victoria there is a reasonable population of timber millers and a fair amount of Australian hardwood trees on privately owned properties so am slowly building a network there which will hopefully over time give me access to some interesting stuff.
Is a bit like forest mushroom pickers though, they are all a bit evasive about exactly where they get their timber from !
