I have a 2012 Ford Focus. It’s one of the 1600cc with auto gearbox that was subject to various systemic clutch and gearbox issues and class action suits here and in the US.
Ford attempted to repair our car several times and seemed to get it largely right about 5 years ago. Recently, within days of needing renewal of registration the transmission gained some awful noises. I took it to the local specialists who advised not to repair it - saying it is a problematic repair that can be expensive and with uncertain results.
I have another car, so decided not to repair it - thinking that by the time I renewed registration and fixed transmission it could be a case of throwing good money after bad. I think it could become one of those money and time pit things.
Aside from the gearbox problem it’s actually quite a nice little car. Book value is 5-6k.
Now I need to get rid of it. Can anyone advise me what to do with it. I’d like to get a little money back - it seems too good to consign to the wreckers (if you ignore the fact that it doesn’t go for a very good reason). Does any business buy such cars for whatever purpose?
Cheers
