Drawers silky oak

[Blackout]

1. Had these for a while and none of the family interested in those ugly brown drawers.
2. Scraped them down ready for sanding.
3. Sanded drawers and body with 120, 180 and then 240 grit.
4. Wet with metholated spirits and then trimmed hairs with sharp tungsten scraper.
5. Hand brushed with Estapol and scraped lightly, for anymore hairs, between layers. Typically waited a day between brushing layers.
Had one instance of bubbling in an area and had to lightly scrape and then 400 grit sand. Used cloth to remove dust and then coated again.
6. Reinstated drawers.

Guess what they are suddenly loved and moved into the house as linen drawers.
Only problem is in looking at the photos I realised what was forgotten .... next job for the weekend :)

Wow that came up nice.

The drawers look familiar, I think someone in my family had the same set. Wish I had the vision to have fixed them up.

I sold a small one with legs today. 15 minutes and they were sold. The nice thing was that the person buying really knew his wood and is keen to buy a large silky oak desk I have. I explained the desk was just too big even in my house. Turns out he is a solicitor and he wants it for his office. It's a partner desk that started with a solicitor for over 40 years and now it's 4th owner will be a solicitor. Nice to see these beauties go back to where they were meant to be.
