Hi all my name is Daniel I’m from western subs Melbourne, I have 3 boys 12,14 and 17 and haven’t done anything really since school but got into playing with wood for my kids so they can actually do something with their hands, because computer games won’t help you fix anything outside. I’ve played with pallet woods but have just started getting into some cutting boards with my 14 year old. I hope to gain a bit of knowledge from you all so that I can help them out as well make something that I’m proud of too.Cheers to you all.

G'Day & Welcome to a top forum "Daniel".
There are quite a stack members around Melbourne and cross Victoria plus the rest of the country.....
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum.
Enjoy your woodwork and good on you for sharing woodworking with you kids......
Cheers crowie

PS - Watch out for local Melbourne get togethers, great way to meet like minded forum members & network...

Welcome Daniel. Good to see you doing the right thing by your boys and doing things together. Making cutting boards is an enjoyable task and doesn't have to cost you a fortune in materials or equipment. There are lots of videos on Youtube for cutting boards from very basic to very complicated. Please show us some of your work when you feel comfortable in doing so as we all like to see someone's journey
Won't be long before you have to change your forum name:;

Thanks all for the warm welcome, now that I’m part of the forum I better get some wood any suggestions besides Bunnings for good places to source wood for chopping boards and some little hardwood projects

Hi Noskillz
welcome. I too am quite new to the hobby to I can do a few things with my kids. I'm also based in the western suburbs of Melbourne near werribee.
Having done a bit of research myself lately I would suggest try Bowen's or Balfour Timber in Sunshine.

Also keep your eye out for furniture put on the nature strip for the taking. Just make sure it is solid wood and not manmade board. You might be lucky to get some hardwood in some older items.
If you get yourself connected with a woodworking club you will be surprised how much wood and timber get offered to them and is usually free to members. You might find one near you in this (https://www.vwa.org.au/resources/clubs/victoria/) list if interested.
