Hey All,
I'm on Brisbane Northside. I'm just getting started in woodworking. My grandpa was a machinist in the military and had many skills I always admired, but regrettably never learned from him before he passed about twenty years ago. He was the kind of guy who would make his own tools from scratch for a project.
Decided to get into it recently, starting with a little misadventure - picked up a triton table saw and a router a month or two ago. I never managed to get that saw aligned properly(followed some instructions in the book, then some from on here and three weekends in, gave up on it. Router seems ok though. Subsequently I've picked up a Bosch gts 10xc and a pair of old Record manual planes (a #4 and #5). I'm sure the bosch isn't as nice as the cast iron tables I'm sure many of you have, but it at least seems to cut straight. I've just started on a crosscut sled for it.
Read up on a few men's sheds online to see if I could glean some knowledge, but I work fulltime and most of them run during the week. Doing a fair lot of youtube watching at the moment and keeping an eye out for more tools.
Got a few projects in mind - planning a workbench right now, then I'll move onto a desk, maybe a new kitchen table.
Thought I'd pop in and say hi.
Cheers!
