Tip - Removing pencil from white melamine

For anybody who is looking at removing pencil from white melamine I have found that Glitz Power Paste works a treat.

I tried a number of different things but found that the Glitz was the best by a long shot. Just wipe a little paste on with a soft cloth and the pencil is gone. No scrubbing required, just a wipe.

I think I may have purchased it from Bunnings. Photos are likely upside down thanks to Apple thinking it knows best!

Have you tried those little white “magic sponge” cleaning thingies? They’re my de-graphiting implements of choice.

I use lacquer thinner. It seems to get underneath the graphite/wax and sort of float the pencil off. I've noticed that finishes like Watco and MinWax Antique Oil Finish seem to lift pencil off of white oak. I made some not squares for marking hand cutting dove tails and wanted the angle on after I finished the not squares. The MAOF floated the pencil out of the white oak.

Wd40, spray, wipe off, wipe down with soapy rag to remove wd40. Done.

Glad to here that there are some other options. I just tried what I had at hand before coming across the one mentioned.

Having been cabinetmaking for 40 odd years and a considerable of those in white board kitchens. As said by others there are many methods that work, most often you use what is at hand so here is another one a dot of no more gaps on a wet cloth does it with ease, always have some on the job when fitting and working white board.:D

Kneadable erasers and blu tak are other effective solutions.

I find white vinegar cleans most and is non toxic.

Only ever used metho, especially on wood as rubbing with an eraser appears to change the area where the eraser was used, ie when using a spirt stain it absorbs differently.

Should you have pressed too hard (particularly with soft timber like pine) and have a lined dent use a damp rag and a hot iron to steam the dents out, you will need to do a light sand after this as the dent is swelled out and will probably be slightly proud of the surface. When done the area stains the same as the rest.
