I stopped by the Ford dealership yesterday, for a look at the new 2019 F-150 aluminum pickup.


Just for fun, I took it out for a test drive. I wanted to sense that new truck "feel" before they become old.


The salesperson (a nice looking lady wearing a "RESIST" lapel pin) sat in the passenger seat next to me, describing thetruck and all its' "wonderful" options.


The seats were of particular interest.


She explained that the seats directed warm air to your butt in the winter and directed cool air to your butt in the summer heat.


I mentioned that this must be a LIBERAL truck.


Looking a bit angry, she asked why I thought it was a LIBERAL truck.


"I explained that if it were a GREENS or a LABOR truck, the seats would just blow Hot air up your butt all year-round!"


I had to walk back to the dealership but it was worth it ..... !!!!

The young bloke I help out, is not quite 21 and he owns a F250 2019 model. The seats are massaging with heating as well.
The tailgate is a powered down, when it's down, a step slides out from the top and drops down. Side steps which look like sill panels, come down when a door is opened. IT"S MASSIVE yet gives a better fuel economy than his 2018 Land Cruiser V8.
It also has an amazing towing capacity, nearly 7 tonnes, so much so were building a 5th wheeler drop deck to go behind it.

Funny thing is that I own a 2015 Aluminium F-150. It is the best vehicle I have ever owned. Going t/f Las Vegas at about 130 KPH I'm getting about 22 miles per gallon. My mind is too sleepy to convert that to liters per 100 Km.

Fuel consumption as measured by how many litres it takes to drive 100km (or any other arbitrary distance) is one of the most stupid things ever.

MPG or km per litre make it a damn sight easier to calculate a car’s range, and conversely it’s easier to check on fuel consumption used on a trip.

I'm with you Chief, when I was working my truck used 3 L/Km, the tank held 210 L so calculations were very easy. In the case of my first truck, a 1976 Ford Louisville, the fuel gauge didn't work so I used a dipstick but it got to the stage where a glance at the odometer I could work out how much diesel the tank was going to take at the depot.
Litres per 100km still leave me scratching my head.

My car gets about 7.1 l/km, so when I've driven 640km it should take 6.4 x 7.1 = 45.4 litres



What I find particularly difficult is converting between litres/100 km and MPG.

However.....
At max chickens running two Olympus gas turbines my old Type 42 destroyer (HMS Exeter) used to give about 27-28 knots; two hours of running at that speed equates to 100km near as dammit.

That run would have her sipping around 12,000L of marine diesel...:oo:

Ahh thanks Ian, I really meant 3km /L, I'm not looking forward to getting old.
The Louisville carried a concrete agitator which was driven by a petrol engine so the truck engine wasn't running all day, I bought a new truck in 2002 which carried a hydraulic agi' driven by the trucks engine which meant it was running 100% of the time. In those days diesel was about half the price of petrol, my fuel bill with both versions was 20% of my gross income.

Geoff, when I first read about your Louisville, I thought it read a concrete alliigator!!!! Must be needing new glasses:doh:
I can remember when diesel was about a quarter the price of petrol. I helped a bloke convert a Ford F700? to diesel, took out the 351 and dropped in a GM from memory, added a lazy axle, which was a rear axle hosing with a 25mm thick ring rolled in where the diff went. Had to do it that way for the drive shaft to fit. Not long after diesel and petrol were about the same price.
