Removing air freshener smell from wood

We recently bought a home where the previous owner had LOTS of plug-in air fresheners. We've repainted the house but the wood doors and cabinets (pine) absorbed the oils from the fresheners. I've cleaned, vinegar cleaned and even used a baking soda and water paste to remove the smell. These all helped but the smell remains.

Any suggestions (without adding more or different scents)????

I've considered sanding and applying mineral oil (as it has no scent) but that's a lot of work.

TIME...... You wont smell them any more 1. you get used to them (like when you put cologne on u the morning, within an hour you cant smell it but everyone else can., and 2 they will wear out eventually, unless they poured the oil on he timber or they used a tonne of Napthalene (moth balls).if 1. I'd leave I for a while an see how you go. if 2. sanding wont help if soaked, they will need to be replaced.

place bowls of vanilla essence around the house it will absorb the odour and leave the house smelling better than air freshener.

A coat of shellac will lock in the odor - but that's going to be a lot of work and maybe not practical depending on what you're coating.

I wouldn't sand it. Just baking soda with no water, instead use lemon slices. And of course time, it will eventually go away.

I'm assuming you mean the juice of the lemons??? Then mix the two (baking soda and Lemon juice) and apply to wood?

There is a product from the grocery stores called nil odour. Use that as directed it should help.
Worked for us after aged person with incontinence lived in a room for a while.

remember these are mostly oil bassed fragrences ..... ya vinegar and baking soda won't cut much oil ...... I'd be going at it with some sort of spray and wipe or how water, detergent and ammonia .... yeh you painted over stuff ...... that might do very little as the oil bassed fragrence will come thru the paint.

ventilation and lots of it ..... heat may help too ...... heat the room then ventilate.

Thanks for the suggestion. I found this online but it adds its own fragrance and I just want to neutralize the smell, not replace it.
