Just found a really nice project that requires Minwax Water Based Clear Tint Base Stain
Where it has to be staled at the store.

Minwax not sold in Australia.

Can anyone please help me find a cheaper alternative?
I have 4 colors I need.
And don't want to have to pay $50+ for each color.

Thanks in advance

Seems that everything is $50+ 'cos it's all 1L tins.

Maybe try proper paint stores, they might do small/sample sizes if you only have a small project.

Darn. don't offer sample pots in stains.

I'll have to go back to making my own stains.
grrrrr

At work we had a set of Feast Watson stains for small jobs that weren't worth sending out, we'd just stain the timber directly and spray clear over the top.

What's wrong with Ubeaut water based dyes?

Well all right!

Much better value!

Many thanks!

Anyone know if we can get a Crimson (Blood) Red and a Navy (dark) Blue out of the Ubeaut water based Dyes?

Yeah. Amazing what you can find with an internet search.
"water based wood dyes" in a Google search.
Ubeaut is the third result.

Sure once you get the right combination of words for your search that matches the exact product you already know exists. it’s right there

Amazing how that works

I use the dyes that are sold by CWS if you don't water them down you will get navy blue and vibrant red using these water based dyes.Talk to Jim at CWS he will be very helpful.

Crimson is reddish (https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red)magenta (https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magenta)color (https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color) between red (https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red) and rose (https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose_(colour)) on the color wheel (https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_wheel). You can make it by combining a strong, bright deep red with a little blue (https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue). It is originally the color of the dye (https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dye) produced from the dried bodies of a scale insect (https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scale_insect), Kermes vermilio (https://simple.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kermes_vermilio&action=edit&redlink=1).

Navy blue or navy is a dark shade of the color (https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color) blue (https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue). Some people mistake navy blue for black (https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black) because some navies (such as the United States Navy (https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Navy)) use a shade of navy blue that is so dark it is practically black.

Just picked up the U-Beaut stains from Carbatec.

Thanks to all.

Would anyone suggest using the Jo Sanja's Clear Glaze Medium ( a light surface sealer) to keep the dark colors from washing out?

If using powder dyes??? Try mixing a bit of powder in rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol)
The color becomes vivid, plus it dries on the wood almost instantly

OK finished preparations.

Went out to use the UBeaut Dyes and realized I had no idea even where to start mixing.

I'm after the Crimson (blood) red and the Navy (dark) blue.

I've got 7 - 1.5" x 37" pine to cover.
Do I use the whole sample into a jar and mix 1 to 1 water?

"Just start mixing" doesn't work for me.

Any positive constructive suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Note: Seal the wood lightly (delicate) - to show grain - Use Jo SonJa’s Clear Glaze Medium - two coats
Sand lightly with 320 to 400 sand paper

And a single coat as a finish
then a paste wax

oops! Glad I came back in.
Almost forgot I was going the scorch pine to bring out the grain.

Darn. Of course I only have the pin point flame to heat up band saw blades to red hot to solder back together.
