Kids markings on pine dining table,

We have retrieved a container of furniture from a daughters relationship breakup,
geez louise some people have no respect for furniture. corners damaged, kids carving names etc into stuff, texta drawings etc etc........ we will try and sell off what we can. (dont start preaching about the morals of not mine etc, you do not will not know the whole story If we can just trying to recoup some of our expenses in this debacle.
8 seater solid quality (was) pine dining table has been scratched and carved into, its stained and finished in some mass production seal, semi shine stuff.

But I thought it would be ironic/fun to keep the carvings etc and preserve them. Easy part would be a small amount of clear epoxy resin lightly sand smooth ......then what?
my talents at finishing are primary school level at best....

Whole lot of unknowns there like what was the original finish and what has been used in the drawings. How will those react with new finish. Safe bet would be to lay a sheet of glass over it.

An alternative to glass is 1mm thick polycarbonate sheet.
You can buy it on a roll from Bunnings and cut it to size using HD scissors or aviator tin snips. Edges can be sanded smooth.

I've used PC to cover my large built in jarrah desk that I now do electronics on. I've had it on there for over two years and its working very well.

My son has also used PC to covered a very expensive softwood 8 seater dining table given to his family by a relative.
Their 3 year old has given it a working over and it seems to be holding up quite nicely.
