Ive been getting the same problem for the last couple of weeks.
Is it at your end or mine?
Ive had the same problem with Pm's too.
My machine locks up and I have to close my browser and restart.

I have no idea and it happens to me but it's intermitant. (that's a big word meaning , not all the time :D )
I had a few problems a couple of weeks agao and wrote a large reply to something and then lost the lot. It just froze and like you, I could only reboot. I haven't had the problem for the past 2 weeks or so.

It ain't just you, Al. I've had this problem three or four times in the last month or so.
Several episodes of that heart-warming and poignant tale The Rip In The Fabric Of The Universe have needed to be re-written from memory as a consequence. A near tragedy, I'm sure you will agree, since there existed the awful possibility that your correspondent might have forgotten what he intended to write in the meantime.

I have also seen two problems. Firstly, when replying or sending a response to a PM, hitting submit causes the process to lock. Task manager shows 100% CPU and I can only kill the task to proceed, thereby losing the text. I tried copying the text as a safeguard, but having killed the task I lose the clipboard too.
This has also happened with longer resposes when a quote is involved.
Second problem, which may be my own stupidity, is that when responding to a particular passage in a thread, I highlight that passage and then hit quote. It quotes the complete text, not the highlighted passage.
For the first problem I blame Gates as usual. The problems are displayed both at home and in the office. All MS apps and O/S. 12 yrs old and Windows is still buggered.

No finger-pointing, but that's how it is. Quote the lot, highlight the unwanted txt and --8<--
Personally I've always considered Windows aptly named. It's a pane, easily broken, is a poor means of access and a right bastard to keep in good condition.

Now to teach me for being a smartypants, I have encountered a "problem" of my own. From time to time, the board software changes the case of letters, resulting in an unintenional nonsensical message.
I have noticed that this occurs also to the lower classes who can only afford PC's as well:
Now :D is typed; : (nospace) D
Last night while trying to impose some incisive wit on a thread, I typed a reply which was supposed to read:
:D :D :D
but read:
:d :d :d
Knowing I had not made a mistake, I was curious and edited the post:
:D :D :D
Again the machine thought that I wanted lower case, so my published message said:
:d :d :d
I don't like taking no for an answer, so edited the post again:
:D :d :d , which published to:
:D :d :d
Aha! So then I tried
:D :D :d and hit "submit":
:d :d :d
So I deleted the post and went to bed.
I know that I am not the only one, I've seen the :d :d's and nod knowingly when they happen.... but why??
cheers,
P

For those getting :d instead of :D try going to User CP - Edit Options - then down to the bottom of the page and in the Miscellaneous Options box change Message Editor Interface to Enhansed Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing. Have never had a problem with it.
It is possible that the other problems are coming about due to lack of ISP connection speed, memory and more likely than not some other program/s you may be running that aren't 100% compatible with the forums. Firefox seems to be a bit of a culprit but that doesn't mean it is the problem.
Hope this is of some help.
Cheers - Neil :)
PS They say that Full WYSIWYG Editing may slow things down a bit especially if you are on dial up, but I have used it on dial up as well as ADSL and it always works well and found it doesn't make too much difference to speed.

Regaring the problem of the hour glass appearing and the process freezing when 'quoting' this seems to happening more frequently, particularly on longer replies.
Naturally the longer the reply, the more frustrating this becomes (for the author, perhaps not the reader)
Obviuosly this is a local issue, but some help/investigation would be welcome.

Works OK for a few lines, or should I say FOUR words. Try harder. Try writing War and Peace and taking a while about it. Also happens in the office and at home, so not environment nor machine specific, although both run Gate'sWare but different versions and levels
