The question about ¾ galvanized pipe got me to thinking.

Would it be possible and a cost advantage if we used ¾ re-bar instead of pipe?

As I said DUMB and just a thought. . ..

I take it you are referring to use in sash cramps.
The majority of 3/4 (20mm) rebar is deformed ie: has ribs to aid grip in concrete so the ribs would be additional to the nominal diameter of the bar

3/4" Gal pipe is now known as 20mm nominal bore pipe (20NB). There are various wall thicknesses available, and being pipe, the outside diameter remains the same, which is 26.7mm.
As it turns out, nothing measures 3/4 of an inch or 20mm on this size pipe.
Getting some solid bar really isn't an option, as the closest common size is 27mm, probably too big for the casting on the pipe clamps, and would be very heavy.

Looks like a trip to the local plumbing supply or steel merchant will be coming up.
