View Full Version : Get together/swap meet

Ok Midge's get together was a huge success:) but I missed it:mad:. I think we have at least one more chance to get together before Xmas:D. I also have a small spare cyclone (see pic) and the odd pen, perfume sprayer and other odds and ends (someone may want for Xmas presents) I want to get rid off. I prefer not to sell my stuf, so I thought, what about a swap meet.

My place is on the Gold Coast in Nerang. It may be in the suburbs, but I have a BBQ area and a pool for those of you who may want a dip. It's QLD after all and it's bound to be hot:p .

Sunday 6 November - I'll provide the meat and the heat, for the BBQ that is;) , you provide anything else you may want.

If you have nothing to swap, come anyway, the more the better.

Cheers

Hi neil,
Plan on doing everything in my power to get there, especially considering sister-in-law lives 15 minutes away.

What do you want for the cyclone. How about a couple of big chunks of brazilian cedar or fijian mahogany?????

I also have some stainless steel conveyor rollers. Approx 500mm long and 40mm diameter. Could be good for outfeed table or similar.

Well it looks like a goer.

Doug - sorry but I work Saturdays at the moment, but next year I'll try to make one on a Saturday.

Dan/Tom - sorry if you can't make it, but if your friends like woodwork you could always bring them, Ok by me.

Bitingmidge/Sam - next time maybe.

Mick - timber sounds good, but ticket in advance hmm

Gumby - I'll actually be down your way in March, so perhaps I could catch one of you Melbourne get togethers.

Phil - the perfume sprayers are made from wood.

I'll PM all those interested with the address a bit closer to the date.

If the swap is still on I have a small front vise screw that I don't want anymore.

http://www.timbecon.com.au/details/front-vice-screws-12980.aspx

It is the small one of the two on the page. I have decided that is is not right for the bench that I want to make. Let me know if you are interested to swap and I wil bing it down on the day.

If I may,
I'll pencil it in.
The AB's have been promised a "Learn to Surf" morning at Burleigh Heads somewhere about then.
I have a Freezer to pick up at Oxenford.
Might be a time to do heaps.

Just putting faces to people would be good.

Have to find something to trade..........Hmmmm

I hope wifes/partners are allowed cuz mine's coming - she enjoyed the Biting Midge get together and I like her to be involved in my interests at least sufficient to know some people I chat with and learn from - she has no interest in the process only the outcome - she is also a social butterfly :D .

Well I still have to test the BBQ and clean up a bit around the house:o ( 2 blokes living alone), but next weekend is on for next Sunday. I even made a set of salad servers for those who are bringing some.

Aim for late morning, the BBQ will fire up around mid-day.

I have sent everyone coming a PM with my address. If I have missed someone, just PM me and I'll send you the address back. For late comers, just ring me on 0417 782 204.

That's it I definately won't be there, since my car will more than likely be at the panel shop for at least a full week. If I can organise myself, I will try to get some timber to rufflyrustic for the swap, but at this stage I won't commit. I hope you all have a good day and I look forward to catching up next time!!

Missed the Gathering, Was looking forward to it, but Hey

Got some bad news and would not have been decent company,
not that I am anywhere near decent at the best of times.

I'll get myself back on track,
Mow the lawn on Zero setting,
and cut some inch cube blocks from the largest piece of timber I can find;
One saw width at a time........Grrrr!!!!

Feeling better already, not much though ;)

Dai Sensei,

Thankyou for organising this get together.

We may not have been big in number but we made up for it with quality :D

The meal was sensational - maybe a good thing we didn't swim in the pool - glug - glug.

In the first pic we have L to R Soundman, Ruffly Rustic, Wizen of OZ (standing), Dai Sensei, Ella (TEEJAY'S SWMBO), TEEJAY, bub Ron.

Pic 2 In Neil's kitchen admiring the workmanship in Brian's (Wizen) scraper and mallet and the timber in TEEJAY's clocks (another Brazilian rainforest turned into pallets) then recycled into small clock stands.

Pic 3 and 4 Ruffly serving up the pav and Dai Sensai getting the cuttlery ready as Wizen surprises us with some home made lemon marangue (SP?) pie to add to TEEJAY's pav - YUM :D

We were made welcome by Neil and he showed us some of his wonderful creations and works in progress. His kitchen table in slab camphor laurel is beautiful to the eye - his bed in kwila with the engraved dragon and writings is better than can be seen on his site - even though it looks impressive there too.

Also we saw a WIP in his entertainment room where he is preparing a large entertainment unit in a mixture of red Australian hardwoods - the doors are mostly done and the panels are in progress - a treat for the pic site soon I hope.

Neil was a great host and not only cooked a delicious barbecue he gave an indepth tour of his workshop where we were impressed with his ideas for organising the layout as well as storage and dust extraction - some sound ideas I need to put into practice and study more.

It was nice to meet some of the guys and gal again and share a coffee with some of Soundman's home made chocolate chip cookies and yarn about works, this site and what's happening in our part of the universe.

Ruffly thanks for the photo albums they will find a special place and Neil I will sort some of the timber you are interested in for you soon.

For those of you who didn't get there - we had a wonderful time - shame you couldn't get there - hope to meet you at another get together next year. :)

Cheers

Love the photos teejay.

Great day, well company wise anyway, the rain never quite went away. Tarps over the pergola kept us dry, but it never quite got hot enough for swimming for me.

Plenty of meat left over, but I'm doing it all again next weekend for work, so nothing goes to waist. Mind you, I just finished more steak and salad for dinner, with left over merang and pav for desert - yum:p Leftover Soundsman biscuits still for supper, I'll sleep well tonight.

I scored some cool new toys (drawknife and scraper) along with some timber.

Thanks for the company.

Hello Neil
Thanks for a good day. Great barbecue. Loved your very well organised small workshop. I'll have to stop complaining that mine is too small and use some of your ideas.
Thanks for showing us your work. Rose sheoak is a great looking timber, is it not? Impressive pen collection too.

Thanks for posting the pics, Teejay.

No Midge. But I took it with me. Went down on Saturday and bought a few things from the ever-obliging Gary Pye. Rode around the Coast all afternoon and intended to get in the saddle again Sunday morning but it was raining and I'm a squib so I watched the RL Test instead.
And by the way. I never thanked you and Jo on this forum for the great day we spent at your place 4 weeks ago. Put it down to age. I always do. Consider yourselves heartily thanked for that particular day.
