Hello from Perth, Long time lurker and occasional visitor. I have been upgrading my humble shop slowly and as I need to grow into more respectable tools, I need to draw on good experience and advice more, so I figured I would jump in fully on the forum. Everyone seems very helpful and friendly. At the moment I am on the hunt for a variable speed lathe and they are not abundant pre-owned in Perth right this second, so I am keeping a keen eye out here. I am looking forward to being part of this community. Thank you for having me. :B

Thank you Crowie, that really does make me feel a lot better! Just had some hiccups with taking the lathe in for repairs, but hopefully I will be up and turning tomorrow again.

Hi Rick,
I just got the little Sherwood one from Timbecon about a year ago to see if I enjoyed the hobby. I'm just in the process of upgrading to the old faithful generic MC900 mainly for the variable speed. Absolutely loving turning and hoping to post some progress pictures soon. The next big hunt is for a bandsaw, but i was looking for a nice second hand 14" and they seem a bit scarce in WA at the moment, so one thing at a time!

I also have a little Sherwood which I plan to make variable speed with a treadmill motor and I am in the process of making my old vicmarc to EVS with a VFD and 3 phase
motor. Keep an eye on gumtree that is where I found my bandsaw, just have to be patient :-)

I turned this ring out of a beautiful piece of apricot. Just some salvaged wood, but it came out quite nicely. Still very much a beginner, but I'm enjoying it!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180825/b203a00fc6bbcbe73318c62bb06de5ea.jpg
