Our thoughts, prayers and condolences for those involved and affected by this cowardly act.
Hopefully the indonesians will come down even harder this time.

This is a very sad business. My thoughts go out those who are now suffering as a result of this gutless act.
Although foreigners have been killed or injured, which is sad, we Australians shouldn't forget that it is the Indonesians who are again suffering the most from these bombings.
The Indonesian Government can now apply capital punishment to those responsible once they have been caught and brought to trial. My fear is that think this will only make the gutless animals responsible for this act appear as martyrs for their sick cause.
Is there anything that can be done to stop otherwise peaceful people becoming radicalised by those who preach fear and hate?

yes they can now apply capital punishment but unfortunately i dont think they would be allowed to execute these scum in the only appropriate way.
Anyone convicted of a bombing offence which resulted in the death of others should be incarcerated in a cell with a couple of kg's of high explosive under the floor. they are told that one day in the next 10 years the explosives will go off. can you imagine living like that for a few years? not knowing when its going to happen, today, tomorrow, next year? might make people think twice about getting involved in something like that

Doug I like your thinking, but the problem is is that these "people" are so twisted and warped that they wouldn't care. What is their reward ? Heaven.
They're out to kill or injure us, what's really sad is that they don't care how many of their own peaceful people they kill or injure to perpertrate their cowardly acts. Why would anything else bother them ?

I finished work in the wee hours of this morning and so saw the paper hot off the press, What a horrid waste of life and I just really can't understand the reasoning behind these acts of violence, I'll light a candle for all who are injured and killed through this senseless act.
Like Michael Franti says
"They can bomb the world to pieces
But they can't bomb it in to peace"
Stay human

this way they are denied their reward (heaven) till the explosive under the floor goes off, and until that time, they get a little taste of hell

David's right,
What is the aim of JI's bombing campaign?....drive the foreigners away from Bali..... What would really **** off the bombers.....to see foreigners flooding back to Bali after each bombing.
Play these people at their own game.....book a holiday in Bali.

Grant them endless re-runs of "Neighbours" or "Sale of the Century (with Tony Barber)"..now THAT'S a punishment.

Hi all,
Well we can blame the USA for what is happening today. The way Bush and his team responded to 9/11 has created just the atmosphere that breeds this type of terror.:(
This will go on and on and on. We are just lucky that we are an island that is difficult to access. But it will happen here sooner or later.

OK, you go first.
As soon as work allows that's what I'm doing....
I look at it this way....I fly to work in helicopters...more chance of dying in a chopper crash than in a Bali bombing.

Book a holiday in Bali.
It will take them a year or two to be ready to try it again.
Hotels will offer all sorts of cheap deals.
Air lines will be desparate.
Should be safe and cheap.
Just stay away from the tourist night spots. Go Local .........

Yes, but the chopper doesn't hate you and all that your culture stands for.
In fact, it doesn't seek you out to be today's victim.

Ok you lot.
I don't often do my lolly but this time you have hit me at the wrong time.
A member who shall remain nameless has just PMED me saying:
Once again you are far too ready to weild the axe
We are adults, we can have a robust exchange of views without nanny sending us to bed.
This thread was about the Bali bombings and is now getting into political areas after digressing into the punishment that should be meted out.
I closed this thread because it will not be a debate but turn into a slanging match about politics, your own personal views and he said, she said.
I am as appalled as everyone else by recent world events but I try to let everyone have their say without it getting out of hand.
Some of you push the wrong buttons and if it continues you may find whole threads deleted.
"Robust" exchanges I have no qualms with. Lively debate I have no qualms with.
Arguments and ideology I have no time for because I get a flood of emails or PM's and have to sort it out.
There is also the problem that you are not on the inside or privy to what is going on and rumours and innuendo have sunk many businesses and politicians.
Hindsight is 20/20 vision and I bet there are a lot on here that wish they had done things differently a few years ago. Politicians and public servants are doing what they feel is right at this time. Whether or not we agree (and, yes, I have an opinion but don't state it here) that is the way it is.
