Hi .

In forum rules is says .

"Members with more than 10 posts may also include a website address in their Signature and that website address will then appear in the Signature at the foot of every post they make."

Is an Instagram address considered a Website Address. Or is it allowed to be placed in the signature ?

I don't think Ive noticed any before .

Thanks , Rob

SHORT ANSWER... NO!!!!

LONG ANSWER

Not a good idea to put an Instagram, Twitter, email or any other social media address, phone number or home address,e tc on here or the open internet in general. The ramifications could be pretty horrific. For security sake of members we delete any email address or phone number that is put on by them. If we didn't delete them the poster would be inundated with phone and email spam and all sorts of other malicious stuff.

If you put your Instagram address in your signature it will appear at the bottom of ALL your posts from the very first one you ever made to the last.

If you're happy to open up your account to spammers and thousands of way worst lowlife internet mongrels then by all means add your Instagram address to your signature. If you do, be prepared to be inundated with all sorts of garbage and bear in mind that once the garbage starts pouring in you won't be able to stop it. Deleting it from your signature will only stop it on the forums but the many thousands of copies out there in cyber space will carry on for years and years thanks to the efficient search engines of the world. Don't forget that Instagram is owned by Facebook and we know they've been up to with user security

For each and every post on the forums there can be many thousands of copies on search engines and deleting them is almost impossible.

Bottom line....
If you want to post photos of your work for others to see you can put them in your post or in the Photo Forum (http://www.woodworkforums.com/f122) on this site.

If you want to post photos in general or of your work you could join Photo Forums (http://photoforums.com.au/) which is mostly populated by members of Woodwork Forums.

Doing it as per any of the above will be very safe, get to the audience you want and won't cause you any grief down the track.

Hope this is of some help.

I would like to ask a related question if I may.

Would it be acceptable to put the url for a blog in my signature ? or in a post ? Your signature says report blogs.

I created one to document building a boat. Not much there yet but once there is it might be of interest to some, or probably not :) but I'm not exactly desperate to publicize it. I don't want to get into trouble...

Hello Damian

Don't have a problem with the blog in signature. Do have a problem with 1 post wonders who post a blog link in one or more threads and then disappear never to be heard from again.

This is often done by affiliates who get paid for getting people to click on links to sites or blogs etc. They're nothing but spammers out to line their pockets by stealth and offering nothing to the forums or members.

Teds Plans is one of the worst offenders.

Cheers - Neil

PS Do have a problem with blog in signature if the blog has adult content or is made up of items skimmed from here, other forums, blogs or other sites, etc.

Thank you for the clarification.

Once there is some proper content I'll add it in. It's on the google blog site thing so apparently there are ads but I'm not doing it for money, just sharing my mistakes :D
