Just wondering if anyone can help me with a problem that I am having.
I have a 1991 Triton 2WD Ute that currently is having major running problems. The idle is chronically out and sucks fuel like .... well use your imagination:D.
I have been told that the mixture screw is hidden under a casting plug that you need to drill out to gain access, but I have no idea were it is.
There is no manual for the tritons utes that I can find and I was wondering if anyone has a triton and might be able to help or just knows anything that might help.
The rest of the ute is in good condition and considering that I picked it up for $2500 with a hydraulic tipping tray I would really like to get it running better as it is worth a lot more than I payed for it.

Thanks

cant help with the mixture screw but also do a compression test on the engine as well, my 91 2wd rodeo is idling badly due to a stuffed exhaust valve.

Rowan,
Try the Delica Club,
not QUITE their area
but they could tell you where to go.....
AND
They have some good stored info as well.

Also,
Do a leakdown test
Go to:-

http://morini.com.au/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=1&sid=10b14a2f7b65ad2982c35199f22e1a6c

And do a search on "Leakdown" or "Leak-down"
or
you might try spraying some CRC, WD-40, Chemsearch or the like
around the intake manafold.
DO NOT USE ONE WHICH IS TO FLAMABLE
If it has a leak it will be sucking,
and when you spray where it sucks
the motor will change its idling behaviour.

If it is idleing rough one of the first things to check is if it is sucking air somewhere it shouldn't.

Look at manifold gasket, PCV hose, Vacuum hose to brakes etc.

Being on Austudy at the moment money is a bit tight. Anything that I can do myself means more money for tools and wood:D

What tools you got?
Timing Light? Compression Tester? New Plugs? etc
Did the Delicaclub do any good?
I have a 2.8TDi and they are good help with it.
You just gotto ask.

Maybe it's buggered, and that's why you got it cheap?

If it was me, I'd pay a mechanic to have a look at it.

Your model triton had a horrible carburettor installed.

Take it to a carburettor specialist and get them to do a diagnostic on it. I was a mechanic and struggled to fix those horrible things.

They will have it diagnosed in a few minutes for you. If it is stuffed or the motor is dying you can always put a 2.6 magna efi motor in for not a lot more. Would make a great ute.

Good luck

Came from my stepfather-in-law. He wanted to fix up his charger and $2500 was all that he needed.
