As luck had it I mentioned to a fried I was going to find an old nested table set for my wife next year. How lucky was I that he had a set of silky oak tables. Now most of it is fine to use right now but the plan is as follows.
Water wash the non flaking surfaces with a scourer and nail brush and then quickly dry with cloth.
Some of the legs have flaked off so I will see what comes off with a light scour and brush and again wash then dry.
For the top table there has been a piece gouged so I was planning to lightly sand only inside add some wood filler and sand.
After all of this I want to start adding blonde shellac as I don't want to darken it any more. I'm still into using rubbers but will try using brush for the corner areas.
Between layers of shellac I will use stainless steel wool to cut down any nibs.
Any advice on improving this plan?
Any guidance on the age or any other information on this item?
Thanks for all the help so far.
