Hey all,

I am currently in the process of sourcing timber strip flooring (approx 80mmx19mm) to replace the timber floor in our recently purchased house. At the moment, I am trying to find Northern Brushbox (or something of similar colour) and is becoming a bit of a challenge, so would appreciate if anyone knows of a supplier.

Also, as I am on a time constraint, is it possible to cut out the middle man and deal directly with the Timber mill. Is this done at all?? This would allow me to get the timber to my house quicker and allow it to climatize.

Any thoughts on the above would be most helpful. Thanks. I am based in Victoria.

Nth Box is an asian species that was brought to Aus about 10 yrs a go by a certin "wheeler and dealer" in the industry. At first there was lots of trouble with the stuff and most major timber yards and flooring iinstallers dont touch the stuff. Now days it has improved but still is a bit dogey.

Nth box colour is silmar to brushbox but is darker it was marketed when the real bushbox was in short supply (a few years back) now brush box is also in short supply again, so we may see more of this fake brushbox being dumped onto poor consumers.

My tip is chose an Australain hardwood such as spotted gum or Rose / Flooded gum you may pay a little more but the results will last forever.

PS no good timber mills sell direct they sell though timber yards and the stuff at the auctions is down grade rubbish.
