from abc news:
"New Zealand's electoral office has asked police to look into how a South Island man enrolled his dog to vote prior to last weekend's general election.
Peter Rhodes from the town of Wanaka has revealed that he successfully registered his jack russell terrier, Toby, on the electoral roll.

Mr Rhodes says he registered the dog under the name, Toby Russel Rhodes, listing his occupation as "rodent exterminator".

He says he expected the application would be rejected and the fact that it was not highlights a need for the electoral roll system to be more closely scrutinised.

The manager of New Zealand's Electoral Enrolment Centre is disputing some of Mr Rhodes's story and has referred the matter to police.

Mr Rhodes insists he did not use Toby's vote on election day and nor did Toby make an appearance at the polling booths."

There's hope for you yet Grunt :D

I am on the electoral roles. I vote. I get disappointed.

If they want real voter turn out in NZ, they'll have to let the sheep vote.

I should think he is concerned. I mean, something like this could unfairly raise the average inteligence of the voting pool :D

This story is old hat.....all sorts of animals and even inanimate objects get succesfully enrolled prior to every NZ election.

It's a sad reflection on the Aussie press when the only stories from over the Tasman that warrant covereage involve animals being enrolled as voters.
